1923 – 2015

Kenneth Richard Gifford, Sr. passed away on November 14, 2015 at the age of 92.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne, of 28 years, his children, daughters Charlene (Bill) Alexander, Diana (Michael) Tuggle, and son Bill, daughter-in-law Sally Gifford, step-children John Hunt, James Hunt and Tina Combs, as well as 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ken Gifford, Jr. and first wife, Phyllis.

Ken was born on January 14, 1923, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served in both World War II and the Korean War. In World War II, he was selected to be one of the first members of the newly formed hunter/killer anti-submarine squadrons in the Pacific theater. His duty was a radar aviator on the "hunter" aircraft.

In 1955 Ken moved his family from El Cajon to Oak Run, to raise his children in Northern California.

After 20 years of military service, Ken retired from the Navy with the rank of Chief Petty Officer and began a second career, working for the Shasta County Road Department before beginning a career as a building contractor.

Ken's life passions were hunting, gardening, wood working, and most of all, ocean fishing with friends and family.

Husband, Father, Papa and Friend, he is loved dearly and in our hearts forever.

Services will be held at the Allen & Dahl Chapel, in Redding, on Saturday, November 21st, at 11:00 am.

I will always remember the many conversations in the last 15 years that Ken (senior) and I had in the shop regarding everything from fishing, construction, politics etc. I always appreciated his wisdom that he had in so many areas of life. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten. My prayers are for, and with the family at this difficult time. Blessings to you all Ken Vaughn
