My condolences to the Strohmayer family. John was my varsity basketball coach 82-83. He was a very special man and a friend. I respected him very much! He had a way of teaching life lessons through coaching. It was a privilege to play for him. I know he is in Heaven right now teaching the angels how to shoot free throws. I can still hear him in my mind after all these years coaching me when I shoot hoops today. I will never forget Mr. Stohmayer. He is the kind of person you can't and don't want to ever forget.
Rest in Peace!!

A bit older than I, John was a hero image for me as a young aspiring baseball player. I recall packed houses at Tiger Field when he and Sonny Dixon would match up. Through all of his athletic accomplishments he never forgot where his roots were. A shining example of what we all should strive to be. My best thoughts are with all of the Strohmayer clan. The torch has been passed, carry it proudly.

My condolences to Connie, his sons, and the family. I respected John as a a fellow teacher and then as an administrative colleague. We didn't always agree on issues, but I respected his viewpoint and often sought his advice/point of view because I knew he kept his focus on what was best for the student(s) involved. Whether he was coaching, teaching, mentoring, or leading other educators, John gave his all. We lost touch after we both retired, but I was always proud to read and hear about his community involvement. John truly made a positive contribution wherever he went.

So sorry to hear about John's passing. As man and son of a teacher and educator at Central valley high School, the story of mr. Strohmayer a small town man reaching his goal to play in the major leagues was a motivation to me. And then to have him as a teacher and a coach when I went to high school was even better. My condolences from my whole family to the strohmayer family he will be sorely missed!

My daughter had John for Algebra when she was in the 8th grade before she attended CVHS. He became one, if not the most memorable teacher she had at CV HS. I asked, and he accepted, to let me wire him with a microphone while filming some of his games. He was passionate and expressive and the recordings were proof. We gave him the tapes, and also put together during the 1989 season an album of pictures of the team and the games. It became a truth that the support and involvement of the community, not just the parents were with him all the way. His support and kindness and encouragement for his team and students will be missed by one and all. Rest in Peace, John.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Strohmayer's passing. I graduated CVHS in 1982, and he was one of my favorite teachers there. My brother graduated 4 years prior to my attendance and he has one of Stroh's baseball cards with his autograph on it. What a good man he was, he will be missed.

Coach was a great teacher at CVHS... when we moved home in 2009 and started volunteering, it was great to see him at all the various fundraisers... and of course he was still Coach Strohmayer!! Our hearts are with you all...

Coach Strohmayer genuinely cared about the young people he taught, coached and mentored on and off the playing fields/courts. For me, he made JV baseball, already a fun endeavor, even more enjoyable with his good nature, baseball expertise and exceptional sense of humor. A true leader, and one of my favorite coaches, he was man who was easy to follow. His teachings have remained with me for nearly four decades.

My sincerest condolences to the entire Strohmayer family.

Respectfully,

My condolences to the Strohmayer family. "Coach" was instrumental in shaping the lives of the Cobb boys. Weather in the classroom or on the court I learned several lessons. It was with his encouragement that I became a highschool basketball coach over 20 years ago. He will be missed.

John was a lifelong friend. We Both attended Toyon Elementary School, Deer Creek Jr. High School and Central Valley High School. John left a legacy that speaks for itself, School Superintendent, Educator, athlete and coach. He touched a lot of lives in a very positive way. I believe that Central Valley High School had a very special place in his heart. He started there as a student and ended there as it's principal. My condolences to all of his family.

I was in Mr Strohmayers first class at Junction Elementary. We were hard on him as a student teacher, for which we apologized for later. We loved him. And the fact that he was a baseball player endeared him to me even more. I would like his family to know that I have never forgot him and speak of him often. He was a great man, and I am honored to have known him. I am sorry for his familys loss.
