FUQUAY-VARINA - Audrey Pierce Taft, 78, passed away on January 15, 2017 after a lengthy illness surrounded by her family at Universal Heathcare in Fuquay-Varina, NC. She fought a courageous battle against her illness and will be sorely missed by her loved ones.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 PM in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Taft was born and raised outside of Greenville, NC in the area of Chicod. She was raised by her Aunt and Uncle (Viola and Claud Boyd) upon the untimely death of her mother. She grew up and attended Salem United Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. More recently she was a member of Landmark Baptist Church. She loved to cook, make quilts for friends and family, and work in the yard with her roses. She spent almost 20 years working in an administrative capacity at Pepsi Cola in Greenville, retiring in 2000.

Mrs. Taft is preceded in death by her parents Bernice and Raymond Pierce, one brother, William Pierce and two sisters, Mary Pittman and Margaret Causby.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Taft of Apex, NC. Two sons, Robert "Ray" Taft II wife, Barbara of Colonial Heights, VA and Jeff Taft, wife Rosanne of Apex, NC and three Grandchildren Zachary Taft, Allison Taft and Benjamin Taft. Additionally, she is survived by her brother Earl Pierce of Aurora, CO and four sisters Barbara Watts-Fafara of Warsaw, Poland; Eleanor Clark of Grover Beach, CA; Mae Nichols of Sanford, FL and Shirley Arens of Grovetown, GA.
