Barbara Zimmerman Obituary

Barbara "Bobbie" Joan Zimmerman, 72, of Loveland, died of Lewy Body Dementia on December 29, 2014 at Medical Center of the Rockies. She is survived by her husband, Herb, two loving daughters, Cindy and husband, Gary Linton, of Olathe, Kansas, and Kristen and husband Chris Truelson, of Highlands Ranch; also, sister Joan Krawchuk of Lynbrook, NY. Bobbie was born June 5, 1942, in Astoria, New York, to Olga and Michael Krawchuk. She was raised on Long Island where she graduated from Lynbrook High School in 1960. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle in New York with a BA in English in 1964. On a blind date in college, she met and eventually married Henry (Herb) Zimmerman in a military wedding in Lynbrook on June 6, 1964. While living in Germany where Herb was stationed, she taught in a U.S. Military School in Hanau. Upon return to the states, she taught at Larimer County Voc-Tech Center and Thompson Valley High School in its opening year. She received masters' degrees in Reading and in Library-Media from the University of Northern Colorado. Bobbie was a staff member of Bill Reed Junior High / Middle School, teaching English and Reading for 8 years and working as Library-Media Specialist for 20 years. During this time, she was recognized as State of Colorado Power Librarian for three consecutive years. Bobbie participated in a variety of community volunteer activities. In past years, she was a member of The House of Neighborly Service Board, Philomatheon Club, Sweet Talkers Toastmasters, Junior Great Books Leader, Delta Kappa Gamma, Friends of the Library, Loveland Loves to Read, Bowl for Life / Suicide Prevention, Columbine Tennis and LTA. Also, she was a founding member of both Couples Book Group in 1977 (before book groups became popular) and A Very Special Women's Book Group in 1991. Bobbie was known as "Lovey" by her seven grandchildren: Lauren and husband Justin, Joshua, Jessica, Hannah, Mallory, Henry, and Jack Ryan. She loved to travel extensively with Herb, to laugh at his stories, and to spend time with her daughters and grandchildren, all of whom made her proud. One of her favorite trips was a crossing of the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary II. In addition to travel, Bobbie loved teaching, reading, the fine arts, tennis, and New York City. She loved her friends, and most of all, she loved her family. What a wonderful life and legacy Bobbie left for her family and all of us who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We loved having you as friends and neighbors. Cindy and Lori have been so close for all these years too. Her passing leaves an empty spot in all our lives.
