Rodney Bain Obituary
He was born April 12, 1951 in Boston, Massachusetts to Ivy Adams and William Walter Bain, Jr. He was raised along the eastern seaboard, graduating from Englewood High School in Jacksonville, Florida.
He received his Bachelors and Masters degree and PhD. from the University of Colorado. He taught at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado, teaching electronics, and he concluded his teaching career at Brigham Young University Idaho. He loved teaching and he loved his students.
NASA used his doctoral dissertation and other works in their space program.
He entered the Air Force in 1969 and retired in June of 1991. He served in Thailand during the Vietnam War and he served in the first Persian Gulf War.
He married Nancy Ann Stewart on September 22, 1973 in the Provo, Utah LDS temple. He is survived by his wife of Rexburg and a daughter Deirdre (Daniel) Johnson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and grandsons, Teagan and Owen and granddaughters, Kinley and Riley.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 in the Sugar City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday at the Crest Haven LDS church from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

My name is Bob Johnk and I just learned last night about Rodney's passing over five years ago. I was deeply saddened to see his obituary and I just wanted to share an experience that I had with him 36 years ago.
I went to graduate school in the 1980's with Rodney where we were working on our Ph.D's in different engineering fields at the University of Colorado. I shared some math classes with Rodney and I was really struggling and discouraged with one of my classes. It was so bad for me that I was ready to quit my Ph.D program and leave the University. Rodney encouraged me to "gut it out" and he convinced me to stay. As a result, I went on to finish my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. His encouragement at a dark moment in my life inspired me to persevere. He made a huge impact on my life.
Rodney and I parted ways after he graduated with his Ph.D. and I am happy that he had a rich and rewarding career in teaching--he had a full life. Over the years, I have thought about him from time to time and remember how he was a great friend and a mentor.
I just wanted to share what an impact he had on my life so many years later. I will always miss him!

Bain Family,
