Jay Thompson, 75, of Durand and formerly of Rockford, died peacefully Wednesday with his family at his side at Medina Nursing Home. Born April 13, 1942 in Centerville, IA the son of Marvin and Phyllis (Winger) Thompson. After graduating high school he joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. He later married his loving wife Jacqueline (Walco) in Rockford on February 3, 1996. Jay was a skilled truck driver with a great sense of humor and was a member of the Meridian Sun Masonic Lodge #505 in Holcomb. He was a proud father and grandfather who loved his family very much. His wisdom and ability to make you laugh at the silliest things will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Survivors include his daughters, JoLaine (Lucas) Blum of Covington, KY., Cassandra (Nathan) Potter of Durand, Melissa Dennis and Lee (Steve) Nygren both of Rockford; grandchildren, Atraeyu, Aydrienne, Tristan, Ava, Macy, Samantha, Kevin, Natasha, David and Joseph; great grandchildren, Juniper, Lorelei and Olivia; sister, Penny (Larry) Jones of Davis Junction; sister-in-law, Laurece Thompson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brothers, Marvin and Evan Thompson. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Medina Nursing Home and to Agrace Hospice.
Funeral service Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until time of service.
