Eleanor Holmertz Obituary

ELEANOR MARIE HOLMERTZ, 92 ROCKFORD - Eleanor Marie Holmertz, 92, of Rockford entered into heaven on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, from SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born Nov. 6, 1919, in Rockford, the daughter of Nels and Ella Anderson. Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Rockford. She was a 1936 graduate of Rockford Central High School. She married Rowland Holmertz on June 7, 1941; he died July 8, 2010. She lived 66 years in the home they built in east Rockford until moving into Fairhaven Nursing Home. She was a wonderful, caring, and attentive mother to her children and grandchildren. She worked as a school secretary at Guilford Center School for many years and volunteered at SwedishAmerican Hospital for 25 years. Eleanor excelled as a hostess to family and friends and brought comfort to the ill and lonely. She served in many capacities with women at Broadway Covenant Church where she was a charter member. She enjoyed her flower gardens and arranging flowers to give to others. Survived by her dear sister, Helen Johnson; daughter, Mary Louise (Paul) Johnson of New Hope, Minn.; sons, David (Karen), Fred, of Rockford and Donald(Deanne) of Decorah, Iowa; grandchildren, Gregory (Tracey) Neumarke, Denise (Gus) Anderson, Shari Johnson, Mark(Lori)Holmertz, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Holmertz, Eric (Amber) Holmertz, Allison (Jonathan) Drinkwine, Beth Ann (Joel) Houwer and Brian Holmertz; great-grandchildren, Julia and Ben Holmertz, Jaden Holmertz, Rowland Anderson and Elissa and Katelyn Holmertz. Predeceased also by brothers, Harold and Robert, and granddaughter, Ashley Holmertz. The family would like to acknowledge caregivers at SwedishAmerican Hospital and Fairhaven Christian Residence for the wonderful care she was given. Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, in Broadway Covenant Church, 3525 Broadway; the Revs. Joyce Cosman and Dick Rasanen will officiate. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday in the church. She was a very beloved member of the family, and she was my Godmother as well. Loved going to her house on Post Drive have many great memories of especially Birthday Parties there.
