William Foley Obituary

William Henry Foley Jr., 76, of Rutland, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at his home, surrounded by family. He was born Feb. 16, 1941, in Rutland, VT. He was the son of William Henry Foley Sr. and Elva (Mahar) Foley.
Bill was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy and Castleton State College BS, MA-E.
On July 24, 1964, he married Barbara Gerardi in Wethersfield, CT. Bill taught elementary education in South Burlington, VT, for a year before he and Barbara moved to Rutland. He was the teaching principal of Northwest School. He obtained his master's in reading at Castleton State College and then taught reading at Northeast School, MSJ and Rutland Intermediate School. He was a justice of the peace for over 25 years. He volunteered for many years at the Weston Priory.
Bill loved to cook, do crossword puzzles, watch game shows, spend time with his grandsons and spend time at Lake Bomoseen.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; his brother, Rev. Michael Foley; daughters Lynn (Jeff Douglass) Foley and Elizabeth Foley; grandsons Zachary Brochu and Samuel Brochu; and his cousin, Marie McCarthy, who was like a sister to him. He also leaves behind a brother-in-law, John (Mary Ruth) Gerardi; and sisters-in-law Katherine (Robert) Shields and Laurie Foley; as well as his many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Bill was predeceased by his parents; as well as his brother, Daniel Foley; and sister-in-law, Lorilee Foley.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at Clifford Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Rutland, VT.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Mount St. Joseph Academy Development Fund, 127 Convent Ave., Rutland, VT 05701; Regional Ambulance Service Inc., 275 Stratton Road, Rutland, VT 05701; or VNA & Hospice of the SW Region, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701.
