Walter Pyle Obituary

SHOREHAM - Walter M. Pyle, 93, of Shoreham, died Thursday morning November 26, 2015, at the Helen Porter Health Care in Middlebury.
He was born on December 31, 1921, in Jamesburg, N.J., the son of Thomas and Agnes (Johnson) Pyle.
Mr. Pyle graduated from the Washington Irving High School in Tarrytown, N.Y., and the New York State University in Ithaca.
He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Co. D, 47th Infantry, 9th Division, earning 7 campaign stars and a bronze star.
Mr. Pyle married Edith Colgate on August 23, 1947. They relocated to North Pomfret, Vt., and established a dairy farm; in 1966, they relocated to Shoreham, establishing the Pocantico Farm until retiring in 2006.
Mr. Pyle had served as a School Director in Pomfret and on the Woodstock Union School, as a Selectman in Pomfret, President of the Zoning Board in Shoreham, and in the Vermont state Legislature from 1979 to 1992.
He was a member of the Vermont Farm Bureau, Vermont Jersey Club and the New England Jersey Club (serving as president of both) and a founding member of the North Pomfret Fire Department.
Mr. Pyle was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants.
He enjoyed making people laugh.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Pinkerton of Warrensburg, N.Y., 2 sons Walter F. Pyle and his wife, Midge, of Lee, Mass., and Tom Pyle and his wife, Darlene, of Shoreham, Vt.; 4 grandchildren Michael Pyle, David Pyle, James Pinkerton and Ginny Patz; a great-grandson, Christopher Thompson; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Pyle, on July 14, 2015; also by a daughter, Margaret Pyle; a son, Ellis Pyle; a brother, Howard Pyle; an infant brother; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Pyle, in 1974.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at the Fair Haven United Methodist Church. A reception will follow.
Burial will be at a later date in North Pomfret Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Durfee Funeral Home.
