Maye Baggs Obituary

Maye Adora Ritchie Baggs, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Marathon, Florida on July 4, 2012. Maye was born May 1, 1920 in Rupert, Idaho, the fourth child of nine to James Draper and Cora Elizabeth Carver Ritchie. Her mother passed away in 1935. Her father married Hermine Eckersley in 1938, adding a sister and later two brothers to the family.
She was the cherished wife of Spencer C. Baggs whom she married on November 22, 1940 in Reno, Nevada. The marriage was blessed with love and happiness for over 55 years, until Spencer's death in 1996. She and Spencer became the parents of five children, Carol Mae, Ritchie, Clare, James, and Cora.
Maye attended schools in Twin Falls, Idaho and Ogden, Utah and graduated from Ogden High School in 1938 and attended Weber College. She had lived in Ogden for most of her life, with the exception of 12 years she and Spencer lived in St. George, Utah. She bought a home in Marathon, Florida in 2001 to be near her daughter Cora.
She was a member of the Martha Society and the Junior League of Ogden. She managed the Ballet West ticket office at the Bertha Eccles Art Center. She was a member and past President of the Ladies Golf Association at both the Ogden Golf and Country Club and the Bloomington Country Club in St. George, Utah.
Maye enjoyed traveling, golf, playing bridge, knitting, reading, mahjong, and jigsaw puzzles.
Maye is survived by four of her five children Carol Mae Frost of Kimberly, Idaho; S. Ritchie Baggs and wife Liz of Victoria, B.C. Canada; James E. Baggs and wife Colleen of Fruit Heights, Utah; and Cora E. Baggs and husband Drew Caterson of Marathon, Florida; eleven grand children, eight great-grand children, and three great-great-grand children; sister Ruth Coombs of Las Vegas, Nevada and brother Donlee Ritchie and wife Peggy of Kent, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her husband Spencer, daughter Clare Hastings, great grandson Haydn Hopkins, parents, step-mother, sister Beth Sundquist, brothers Willard, Ward, Verl, Dean, George Lawrence, David, and Joseph, and stepsister Alice Ray Foster.
A Graveside gathering for friends and family will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. At Maye's request, there will be no viewing or funeral service. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary.

Maye was one of the most gracious and lovely women that I have ever had the opportunity to know. Maye will be missed but she left everyone she knew a little better.
