Michael Hembury Obituary
Michael J Hembury passed away on January 31, 2018 at the Ivins Veterans Home in Ivins, Utah after a long battle with cancer. Mike was born in Auburn, NY on September 18, 1948. He was a graduate of Auburn East High School and received a bachelor's degree from Westminster College in Salt Lake City and a Masters degree from the University of Utah. He served in the Navy from 1966 through 2006. Most of that time he was a navy corpsman assigned to the US Marines and participated in Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War. After receiving his Masters Degree in Social Work he served as a councilor for the US Government in Albany Oregon and at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City. Mike was an avid reader. especially history and enjoyed hiking and old movies. He is survived by sisters Elizabeth Carter of South Beach, Oregon and Susan Lofft of Lebanon, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marjorie Hembury. Donations can be made in Michael's name to the American Cancer Society.

Michael is gone but not forgotten. I´m laying in bed listening to thunder which is a rare treat in Utah and memories of Michael popped into my head. I don´t know what motivated me to search for Michael online but I was thinking about him. He was the supervisor of a mental health team we worked on in the 90´s. I liked working with Michael and he was really dedicated to serving veterans. I will always remember him with respect and admiration. God bless you Michael.

Michael was an absolute genius in knowing how to work with our veterans and in his zany sense of humor. I will always miss him. he was a great co-worker and then later a wonderful friend.

I just learned of Michael's passing and I am so saddened. We worked together at the VAMC in Salt Lake City and I so enjoyed his wit, his expertise in mental health, and his devotion to veterans. Rest in peace, my friend.
