Kimberleigh Briggs Obituary

June 23, 1961 - August 18, 2018
Kimberleigh Monsen Briggs, known to all as Kimber, was born in Oak Park, Illinois on June 23, 1961. Her journey on this earth came to a close on August 18, 2018 at 11:50pm at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital while holding hands with her husband Daniel, her son Sean and her brother James. Kimber battled cancer with courage, good humor and great dignity for 14 months with the help of family, friends and the caring doctors and staff at The Mays Cancer Center.

Kimber came to San Antonio in the early 1980's from the Chicago area. In 1985 she gave Daniel the greatest gift he ever received - her hand in marriage. A few years later, in 1993, Kimber gave Daniel another great gift in the form of their son Sean, who has grown into a fine man through her love and careful guidance.

Kimber made friends wherever she went. If you were fortunate enough to be one of them, she always made you feel like you were best friends. Anyone who came in contact with Kimber was a better person for the experience.

Kimber was a student of Concept-Therapy International, near Leon Springs, where she learned so much about the power of the mind and keeping a positive attitude. These teachings were invaluable to her and she relied on them constantly throughout her struggle with cancer.

Kimber's true passions were animals and volunteering. In the late 1990's, she combined these passions and became both a docent and service volunteer at the San Antonio Zoo. While there, she taught Herbie, the black rhino, to paint and recognize shapes and colors. More recently, Kimber volunteered regularly at Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation where she rescued squirrels, opossums, deer and all other manner of wildlife and helped nurse them back to health.

After becoming a Master Naturalist and Master Gardner, she spent countless hours volunteering at the Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne monitoring their bird boxes and at the San Antonio Botanical Garden tending to the Sacred Garden. She was the longtime newsletter editor for the Bexar County Master Gardeners.

Kimber was a detailed planner and left with so many plans unfulfilled. She was mostly

looking forward to the many journeys she had planned with Daniel and her dog, Gibson, in their motorhome.

Although Kimber has now embarked on another journey, she will not be alone. She will be met by family and furry friends who have gone before. Kimber's spirit will always remain strong in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be truly missed by Daniel, Sean and James.

Per her instructions, Kimber's family will host an informal (leave your suits and ties at home) gathering at the San Antonio Garden Center, 3310 N. New Braunfels, on Sunday August 26, 2018 at 5:00pm to celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either the Cibolo Nature Center, San Antonio Botanical Garden, San Antonio Garden Center or Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation.

I met Kimber on a camping trip with Janey Henry. She did make me feel like I had known her forever. Such a sad loss to everyone who she touched. Becky Morris

What a dear, sweet, witty, fun and caring person. Kimber was a friend to all creatures. She helped with our butterfly surveys at Cibolo Nature Center several years back. What a joy to know her! My sincere condolences to her husband, Daniel, and her son, Sean. My heart goes out to you two, as well as to her brother, and others who knew her. Happy Journey, Kimber. Heaven will be a sweet place with you a part of it.
