John Daniels Obituary

May 13, 1923 - November 27, 2015
John was born in St. Paul, MN to Arthur and Marie Daniels on May 13, 1923 and died in San Antonio, TX on November 27, 2015 at the age of 92.

John moved to California in 1938, and then to San Antonio in 1940, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1942. He served in the Merchant Marines in WW II and graduated from Officer Candidate School.

In 1947 John married Eileen McGee in Brooklyn, NY and made San Antonio their home.
John attended St. Mary's University, graduated from St. Mary's University School of Law in 1950, and was licensed to practice law in that year.

John is survived by his wife Eileen, sons Michael (Julie), Brian (Linda), Tim (Robin Gurovitsch), Tom, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brother; Jerry Daniels and sister Kathleen Daniels O'Connor, both of Minnesota. In addition there are many nieces and nephews.

A prominent San Antonio attorney, John enjoyed a full life which included being elected in 1955 and 1957 to the City Council of San Antonio and three times as Bexar County Democratic County Chairman. In 1957 John was named "Outstanding Young Man of the Year" by the San Antonio Jaycees.

John served as General Counsel and Vice President of HemisFair '68, the World's Fair hosted by the City of San Antonio.

Throughout his career John maintained an active law practice representing banks, a savings and loan association, housing authorities, educational institutions, entities and individuals. In addition he was an instructor of business law at St. Mary's University during the 1960's and was Board Certified in Real Estate law. He developed a profound respect for the United States Constitution and enjoyed discussing the constitution with friends and family.

Active his entire life, John enjoyed running, traveling, reading historical non-fiction and biographies of American leaders. He became an astute amateur Presidential historian.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Anthony de Padua, 102 Lorenz Rd., San Antonio TX 78209. A reception in the church hall will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice.
