Love, comfort, warmth, inspiration, strength, family. These are just a few words that come to mind when I think of Ruby (Granny). No words can truly capture the whole being of what she meant to me and many others. She will be missed dearly and will never fade from our thoughts and memories.

As Thanksgiving approaches, I will miss her even more so. Who will make the gravy? Who will make the pies? Who will bring too much food to the desert and try to feed everyone? While Granny won't be with us physically, her spirit is with us always. I feel her everyday smiling upon us and she will always be our angel. I love you granny. xo

Celebration of Life:

Those of us gathered around would not be here today if not for knowing Ruby. She married, had children and made a family that has grown through the years. Although her life has come full cirlce, she has left us behind to carry on the family. She was loved by us all and will be greatly missed.
I love you very much Mom, Aggie

To All of Ruby's Kids...Ruby was everyone's "Granny", including myself. She had the knack for making you feel like you were the only one in the world. Her love & kindness always made me feel welcome and part of the family. I'll always remember 3 days I spent with her learning her love of family, cooking, shopping & Bingo. Ruby's jelly was legendary. Everyone fought for jars & was "smuggled" to us on more than one occasion. Her passion for these things made me a better person. Besides the casino, Ruby loved the annual banquet. She examined & bid on every afghan and quilt in the place, and had a great time doing it. We were ALL blessed to have her in our life. Thank you so much for the gravy boat. We'll think about her everytime we see it & charish it always. The Lord has a grand, cushy seat for Ruby.

Ruby-I'll talk to you in my prayers and See you later. Rest with peace

With all our love,

Here's to Ruby

A few short years ago we came to this city,
To say goodbye to Bud, with a farewell ditty.

And now, once again, we are all gathered here,
To mourn for dear Ruby, yes, but also to cheer.

Ruby had a long and a very productive life;
A mother, a grandmother and for Bud, a good wife.

Now, after Bud was gone, Ruby's life was not tame,
She loved bingo, the slots and a wild poker game.

She'd call anyone's bluff, and bet on every hand,
Win lose or draw, that was Ruby's plan.

I say to you, Dear Ruby, with a tear in my eye,
Good luck at that big table way up in the sky!

To My Dear Granny

I love you, I will miss you. I will take what you taught: love, family, respect, teach my children and live my life without regret. Love and life is not fair. You held us all together like a quilt without any tears. You were a simple person with no flaws, you made the best of everything even when things seem to be a lost cause. You were never sad, angry or mad at me or my brothers, my Mom or my Dad. I would call to see how you where doing and you would ask if I was hungry because you were in the kitchen cooking. Come on over for a hot lunch, sometimes breakfast, dinner, hell - even brunch! At your house we never went without love, hugs or kisses. You are the best Granny no doubt! You taught lifes lessons without speech, just by the way you do things was how you taught. You change so many lives this I don't thing you know: all the people here today goes to show.
I love you, Travis Goolsby

The skies filled with rain
And soaked us below
The heavens opened up
We had to let you go

Sad heavy hearts
Filled with so much sorrow
Praying we will wake up
And see you tomorrow

It’s hard to let go
Of one you hold dear
Your love a treasure
We will always keep near

Now we can't see you
But still you remain
Our smiles are genuine
Every time one speaks you sweet name

Ruby (Granny) we love you
And we will always stay true
To the happy great memories
We will keep close of you

Love your grandson Tom

I only visited with Mrs. Goolsby a handful of times, but it didn't take much time with her to get a sense of her love for life. The first time we met she challenged me to a game of horseshoes... and beat me! May this wonderful lady and mother rest in peace.

Ruby, You and Bud will be missed by many. You both were our Mom and Dad out at the desert and elsewhere. You were excellent examples to all of us young uns in so many ways. You always helped and listened to anyone who needed help. True salt of the earth people, for us to aspire to be like. God bless you, and thanks for all the patience, time and teaching you gave us, the many great meals we enjoyed, the many beers we emptied, and all the adventures and campfires shared. Thanks Les and family, for sharing them with us.
They will not be forgotten.

A Poem for "Mom", my mother-in-law.

You were loving & kind
A sweet gentle soul,
Taking care of your family,
Your number 1 goal.

You were one of eleven,
a share cropper's daughter.
The stories you told us,
will be shared forever.

Our trip to Alaska
A dream come true,
we had a great time,
It was all because of you.

Bingo & gambling
were big on your list,
if you didn't win,
Boy, you'd get pissed.

I know you were lonesome
these last few years.
With no one to cook for
or to wipe your tears.

I know your in heaven
with Papa and Wes.
Please tell them we miss them,
that is our request.

I'll miss you more
than you'll ever know
Please tell my "Daddy"
I said hello.

With a heavy heart
and with many tears,
Your memory will live on
with us through out the years.

Your Loving daughter-in-law,
Kathy

For all of the "desert people" Ruby was our glue. Playing poker, Texas hold'em and guts will never be the same without you. You were my second mom and always there for my children as well. My tears will flow for a long time. Your love for all of us will live on forever through all the generations to come. I will never forget you. Love Cheri

A tribute to my granny’s life...from Patsy Marlene West.

I was born of a girl at the young age of nineteen,
My granny said I was the ugliest baby she had ever seen.

Yet she took me and mom home, and raised me with love,
She was my angel….God’s gift from above.

Ruby worked very hard and lived a long full life.
She raised 3 kids and set the standards of being a housewife.

Granny loved bowling, cards and the slot machine....
She lived for the sound of the big “kah-ching”!!!

Granny nurtured us all by filling our bellies,
With biscuits and gravy, ice cream and of course, strawberry jelly. :-)

To my mother, Aunt Jackie and to Uncle Les, of which we know, she loved you best.
As you step into your new role of elder fame, please continue her love and honor of the Goolsby name.

To my Granny, as we now lay you down to sleep,
We pray the Lord your soul to keep.

And if in heaven there is a casino,
Sit your but down and play lots of bingo.

I am so lucky to have you in my life. I will miss you every day as I loved you every day.

There is something special about a Mom and her sons and mine was very special to me. My Mom was the June Cleaver of our neighborhood, always there when I got home from school, dinner on the table at 6, clean clothes in the dresser. That caring never stopped as I grew up and had my own family. My Mom was all about family first and never stopped trying to take care of us as she did when we were little. I will miss her forever and ever. Thanks Mom for making me a better Man. Love you always.

October 22, 2010

To my Mom, my sadness is great and my heart is heavy. I can hardly imagine a life without you in it. May the angels watch over you now and may you find peace. Your loving daughter, Aggie.
