Eleanor Blangsted

Blangsted, Eleanor OCEANSIDE/ ENCINITAS -- Eleanor Blangsted, 101 years young, passed away on January 13, 2013. She was born August 11, 1911in Los Angeles, Calif. Eleanor studied drawing, painting, and modern design at the Otis Art Institute for five years. She attended UCLA, earning an SDS teaching credential. She taught at several schools including Hollywood High Adult School and finished her career in art at Mira Costa Community College where she taught Adult Education Creative Art Classes for 15 years. In all, she spent 50 years involved in art. Beginning around 1925 at the age of 14, she dropped out of high school to begin a career in show business which lasted until well into the 1930's. Highlights included dancing for the Dance Troupe of Fanchon and Marco where she danced in feature musicals and reviews at such places as the Balboa Theatre in San Diego, The Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, and the Paramount Theatre in New York. She was a member of numerous Art Associations, and was very outgoing, vivacious, and had a love for life. Eleanor was married to Paul Blangsted for 65 years until his passing in 1998. She is survived by children: Erik Blangsted, Jerry Blangsted and wife Linda, and Douglas and his wife Christine Chenevert; grandchildren, Brian and wife BJ, Paul Blangsted, Laura Blangsted Sarah Visnic and her husband Jon; great-granddaughter, Nyla Visnic; great-great-great- granddaughter of John Brown, the Abolitionist, met, stayed in the home of, and marched with, Martin Luther King Jr during the civil rights era.
