Owen Miller Obituary

Owen "Big O" Miller
Sept. 26, 1932 - May 24, 2014
Aptos, California
How do you say goodbye to the love of your life, best friend and husband? Owen "Big O" Miller left for his trip to heaven on May 24, 2014. He was born in Illinois on Sept. 26th, 1932 to Darwin and Alice Miller. When he was a child they moved to Felton. He attended Santa Cruz schools and worked at The Trout Farm and Costello's. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served four years in the Korean Conflict. He attended San Jose Junior College and during that time met Letticia "Tish" Tori who became his "child bride" on June 16, 1956. Owen worked for the County of Santa Cruz and then the Santa Cruz City Water Department as Superintendent of Production (they could use his wisdom now).
Golf was his life; rain or shine, Owen and his friends were on the golf course. He was also a softball player and a bowler. We always watched football together, of course, the 49ers. Owen will always be remembered for the stories he told, his love of life, kindness, laughter and helpfulness to anyone who needed him. Owen is survived by his wife Tish, his children: Michael (Karen), Owen (Anne) and Denise; six wonderful grandchildren: Neil (Jennifer), Melissa, Courtney, Nicholas, Mathew and Mark; and two great grandchildren: Cole and Zoey. He is also survived by his sister, Alice (Bill) Tiffin and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Darwin and Alice; brothers: Eddie and Darwin; and sisters: Joyce, Betty and Adele.
A special thank you to Owen's cardiologists: Dr. Potkins of Santa Cruz and Dr. Schroeder of Stanford; and his nurses at Dominican Hospital. I will truly miss him but know how lucky I was to have such a wonderful man in my life – 'til we meet again honey, love you.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Jade Street Community Center in Capitola, June 21, 2014 at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Owen's memory.

I have such fond memories of Owen and the funny stories Richard would tell me about him. Owen is in my prayers every morning and I'm hoping that he and Richard are sharing laughs together in Heaven. Tish is in my prayers also because I'm sure she misses him as much as I miss Richard.

To Owen's Family:
Our deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your beloved Owen. We have so many fond memories of our time spent with him on the golf course with the city league, and I enjoyed working with him at the city. He was a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

My profound condolences to Owen's family. Injury prevents me from attending the service this weekend, but I want you to know how well he was and is regarded and how much he is missed. He is one of the kindest men I've ever known and it is such a great loss to his family and friends, and to the world.
