Carolyn Hall Young Obituary

CAROLYN HALL YOUNG Carolyn Hall Young, beloved wife, artist, mentor, horsewoman, and inspiration to friends and admirers around the globe died on December 23, 2016. She is survived by her husband Warren and her sister Lee Kathleen Hall. To quote Carolyn, "If any of you are around long enough to write my obit, I'd like you to mention that I was an excitable girl, and that I had a full and brave heart." She would also state, "You never know what you'll get to be grateful for." Carolyn was born in Redwood City, California, on August 25, 1953. Her forebears were New Mexico homesteaders. Her father, Jack Edward Hall, was a captain for Pan Am, and Carolyn lived as a child in Hong Kong and Turkey before returning to Greenwich, CT, for her school years. Her mother, Jimmie Lee Hall Valentine, was also a pilot and skilled artist. Carolyn attended Sofie Newcomb College for Women at Tulane University and received degrees, with honors, from the Pratt Institute and the Rhode Island School of Design. She applied her creative passions to all aspects of the creation of art. This included painting, print making, art direction for film and theater, graphic design, advertising illustration and interior design. In 1990, Carolyn and her husband moved from Phoenix to El Rancho, New Mexico, renovated an old adobe farmhouse, planted Carolyn's garden, and enjoyed the company of good friends, neighbors, horses, dogs and cats. She lived each day with joy and love, counseling other cancer patients and, even after she was bedridden, continued to create. Using her iPad in her final years, she created more than 1600 paintings for friends around the world. Love Wins! The Carolyn Hall Young Memorial Fund has been established to support cancer patients. A memorial open house will be held April 22, 2017 at her home in El Rancho. For information about the fund and the open house contact Warren at lovewins.fund@gmail.com.

I remember and will never forget Carolyn for her artwork on Precision Power amplifiers, my hobby in the 1990s growing up. As an engineering professional today, I want to say "Thank you" CHY for your artistic impression on a beautiful piece of engineering and ultimately, decades later, contributing to my realization of how the worlds of art and engineering can meet.

There never will be anyone like Carolyn. It was a privilege to know Carolyn and her beautiful spirit, joy, independent outlook, and passion and devotion to painting. We met as freshmen Art Majors at Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans; we subsequently, coincidentally transferred to RISD at the same time. Though we were out later of touch for many years, we were able to catch up by phone in 2009; I'm very grateful for this. To quote Carolyn..." If any of you are around long enough to write my obit, I'd like you to mention that I was an excitable girl, and that I had a full and brave heart." Carolyn was indeed wonderfully excitable, and always had a full and brave heart that touched those around her! Thank you Carolyn, for the beauty, grace, laughs, joy, wisdom, and art that you shared with me. Love wins! xox, Becky/Rebecca

Truly one of a kind.
While u take a nap your love transcends your absence.
That humans can hold the memory of their loved ones close to heart- I take comfort in knowing our Creators memory surpasses ours. And when paradise is restored and em parking lots are once more gardens I imagine one day meeting you face to face. I hope your family find the needed comfort during these quiet days while rest.

Thought appears: I miss you Carolyn. And immediately I hear your giggle, your belly laugh, your "how are you doing?"

Your love is as powerful from across the veil as it was when you were on this side. What a miracle our friendship has been to me ... and to hundreds, thousands of others.

Yes I miss you. I say it often so you will visit... One love, dear heart.

Only the good die young. Missing you awful, dear Carolyn. As ill as you were for as long as you were, you always had the time to take that extra step for anyone and everyone. Carrying you with me for ever and for always ❤

Carolyn painted many pictures of me and also of my children and dogs. This picture is my favourite and at the time I was in Seoul, South Korea.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Carolyn many, many years ago while she and Warren were still in Phoenix. As I reflect on all that is great about her I realize just how much she taught me about how to treat people, staying positive, and the relationship she and Warren have is remarkable. Thank you Carolyn. You will continue to be missed.

Many thanks, Warren, for sharing this. Although I never got to meet Carolyn, she will alway be in my heart as an inspiration for my art and my health. She very generously created a portrait of me after having just accepted my friends request the day before! What a huge heart she had! I miss just knowing that she was sharing this earth with me.

Dear Carolyn had the wonderful capacity to laugh at life with the innocence a child, see the world through the eyes of an artist and feel for all with a heart full of empathy. The world needs more gentle souls like Carolyn's, I will miss hearing her laugh.
