Robert McKean Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Beverly on Feb. 2, 2026.
Robert W. McKean, 74, of Hamilton, passed away on Wednesday, January 28th. Born in Hamilton on November 2, 1951, he was the cherished son of the late Quincy Adams Shaw and Katharine (Winthrop) McKean, and the devoted husband of Sandra (Kanenaka) McKean.

Robert will be fondly remembered for his unwavering optimism, infectious laughter, and his gift for storytelling. He had a remarkable ability to connect with and uplift everyone around him. His greatest joys were found in the company of family, in lively games of tennis and backgammon, and in his keen interest in stock investing.

Robert's love for art and architecture shaped both his personal and professional life. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with further studies at the American Film Institute, he was known for bringing creativity, vision, and dedication to every endeavor.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra McKean of Hamilton; his children, Robert W. McKean, Jr. of Boston, John P. McKean, and Sarah N. McKean, both of New York; and his brothers, Thomas and David McKean. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John McKean.

Honoring Robert's wishes, a private Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly. Information, directions, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.

Rob, you had that amazing ability to just flick your racquet in a most off-hand manner and then we'd all watch the ball sail or whiz past us, a sure winner. Then that grin would come across your face and the world would seem a bit sunnier for a moment. Between points or after the game, we'd stand around and yak, there at Dix Park, and our conversations were always punctuated by your whole-self laughter. You brought the fun along with the shot-making and the excellent team-mating, and we will always cherish those years and years and years with you. With love to you and your family from all of your tennis buds and me, Andy Calkins.
