Judith Totman Obituary

KITTERY POINT - Dr. Judith Jenkins Totman died at York Hospital on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.

She is survived by her husband Frank; daughter Tasha McDonough and husband Michael; sons Frank and wife Heidi, Thomas and wife Lisa Deschamps; grandchildren Brendan and wife Jill, Matthew and Kelly McDonough, Lisa Hintlian and husband Kyle, Kristina Hartigan and husband Brian, Madeline, Julian, Christina, and Alissa Totman; and great-granddaughters Clara McDonough and Natalie Hintlian.

Judy lived a full and active life. Following Frank's Navy and business career she resided in Pensacola, Fla.; Bay Side, Va., (where she taught in Princess Anne County schools); Camden, Ark., and Grand Island, N.Y., before settling in Lexington, Mass.

A graduate of Colby College, Judy was an enthusiastic fund raiser for her alma mater and was awarded a Colby Brick for her efforts. She continued her education in Massachusetts, earning a Masters and Doctorate from Harvard. She was Director of Continuing Education at Bentley College, President of the American Institute for Banking, and worked in textbook publishing with Silver, Burdett and Ginn (later CBS).

Retirement brought Judy to Kittery Point, Maine, where she continued her commitment to charitable work and to community participation. Volunteering at Strawbery Banke and Footprints Food Pantry was very meaningful to her. She was active in the Harbourside Garden Club, the International Women's club, the Kittery Art Association, New Hampshire Art Association and Pastel Painters of Maine. Her membership in the First Congregational Church was especially important to her.

A talented artist Judy became a noted New England pastel painter. In later years she worked with disabled artists introducing them to this genre through the Art of Recovery program.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at the First Congregational Church, 23 Pepperrell Rd., Kittery Point, on December 3, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Footprints Food Pantry, 37 Old Post Rd., Kittery, ME, 03904. I was saddened to learn of Judy's passing just recently. We were both members of the Kittery Art Association. I always enjoyed seeing her pastel works in the exhibits there. The art world has lost a major talent.

I was very sad to hear that Judy had passed. She was a true gem and I really enjoyed our meetings planning her & Frank's train trip to Canada. My thoughts and prayers for her family.
