Brian Oldfield Obituary

Brian Oldfield

Brian Oldfield was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England on March 23, 1927, to Tom and Nora Oldfield. He passed away surrounded by family on April 22, 2017, in Burien. A kind, considerate, and thoughtful man who saw the good in all things in his 90 years on earth.

In 1961, they moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest and Brian started at Boeing as a mechanical engineer. He worked in the military and commercial hydrofoil divisions for 26 years and retired in 1987.

In retirement, Brian and Mary traveled the world. Brian loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife Mary Oldfield, children Martin (Jennifer) Oldfield and Diane (Jeffrey) Likes, grandchildren, Taylor (Alex) Calderon, Kendall (Taylor) Aitken, Jaime Oldfield, and Austin Likes; sister, Margaret Stevenson.

Brian was my first boss at Boeing. I was only 19 when I hired into Boeing as a drafter and was placed in the Marine Systems back in 1978. It was scary being a girl is a sea of men. Brian was so protective of me and would tell the men who came around my desk to get back to work. He was so kind. He and his wife attended my wedding in 1979. I still have the crystal glasses they gave me. Great human and person.

Uncle Brian; what a great guy. An inspiration to me on how to conduct oneself through the journey of life. A very sincere, caring and loving person with a good sense of humour. A person who would listen as well as give honest advice and help to anyone asking for it. I am so glad I had the opportunity to visit him and his family just a few months ago. It was great to sit on the deck sharing a Crown Royal whist we peacefully watched aircraft landing and ships a sailing down the sound.

Auntie Mary, Marty & Diane are so lucky to have had this guy as a husband and a father. I only wish I could have had a father like him guiding me through the journey of life. My deepest condolences to you all at this very sad time. Always in my memories.

I remember Uncle Brian's sense of humour and his strong, gentle presence. When he was with you, he was with you, and you could feel his warmth. I knew Uncle Brian most as a kid, but he is a reference point for me as a man.

I send my deepest condolences to you: Aunt Mary, Marty and Dianne and all of your families. When I think of Brian I feel nothing but love. I send you mine during this difficult time.

Uncle Brian was an incredible inspiration to our family. A class act with a great sense of humour.. He made the best smoked salmon, a recipe that will never be forgotten. He used to enjoy getting picked on by Aunt Mary. She really knew how to get the best out of Uncle Brian. And a remarkable career also having worked on one of the finest Canadian military aircraft of all time-the Avro Arrow. Thanks for sharing those stories with me. You will be truly missed. My thoughts go to Aunt Mary and my cousins Marty and Diane and their families.
