Gerald Rehberger Obituary

Gerald Robert REHBERGER Jerry Rehberger, 41, an outgoing adventurous man of good will, died February 21, in Ft. Pierce, Florida. Jerry died instantly when a driver turned left across his path on highway US 1. Born March 22, 1966 in Seattle, WA, Mr. Gerald Rehberger, known as Jerry to his friends and family, grew up in Bellevue. Jerry graduated in 1984 from Interlake High School where he was a member of the school’s football, wrestling and soccer teams. A soccer goalie, Jerry was named a KingCo All-Star in 1984 and later taught the sport in the greater Seattle area, and was a referee in the King county indoor soccer league. The outdoors was always a part of his life. He climbed Mt. Rainier in his early twenties, and eventually climbed most of the other peaks in Washington state. Jerry spent many happy days hiking and climbing in the Cascade and Olympic mountains. During his life, he also took great pleasure in boating, scuba diving and flying. Jerry had been a pilot since 1985 and was an experienced aviator. He was also an experienced motorcyclist who, starting with offroad bikes, had been riding since childhood. Typical of his love of adventure was a 600-mile journey in February of 1985 from Bellevue to Ketchikan, Alaska. Undertaken in a 13-foot inflatable Boston Whaler, and with Jerry wearing a survival suit, it was a memorable trip highlighted by both days of calm water and blue sky, and several days of 60-70 mph winds and swells as high as his boat was long. Jerry spent several months in Ketchikan and returned to Seattle by the same route and in the same boat. Since Jerry’s move to Florida 10 years ago, the majority of his working life involved working for the Vero Beach Disney Club Resort. Jerry was involved in other work endeavors, but the Vero Beach Disney Resort was the place close to his heart. Jerry served in many capacities there ranging from lifeguard to the front desk, but lifeguarding was his first love. His positive infectious nature and ready smile was well known at the resort. Jerry loved, and was loved by his fellow cast members at the resort, and Jerry will be greatly missed. A wonderful memorial gathering for Disney employees was held at Captain Hiram’s last Monday with his mother and brother attending. Mr. Rehberger was preceded in death by his father, Robert. In addition to his mother, Mrs. Claudette Robertson; and a step-father, Donald Robertson of Arlington, WA; he is survived by: a sister, Saundra Pendleton and her husband Craig, a programmer at Adobe; and his twin 5 year old niece and nephew Delaney and Braeden of Kingston, WA; a brother, Charles Rehberger, a pilot at United Airlines, his wife Diane; and his 14 year old niece, Natalie; and his 6 year old nephew Forrest of Bellingham, WA; an uncle, Gerald G. Rehberger of Bellingham; and an aunt, Donna Hesslin of Sacramento, CA. A celebration of Gerald Robert Rehberger’s life will be held Saturday March 15. To Jerry's Family,

Thank you for bringing such a wonderful person into this world to brighten everyone's life.

Every time I saw Jerry at work (Disney) he had a smile on his face & that put a smile on my face, too. We teased each other relentlessly & always enjoyed a good laugh.

Although it is of small consolation in the face of such an enormous loss; he accomplished more in his short life than most people do in an entire lifetime.

His adventurous spirit & zestful outlook will remain with us always.

He will be greatly missed.

With Love & Deepest Sympathy,
Helen
