Dr. Robert Henry Warren

Dr. (Rev) Robert Henry WARREN Dr. Robert H. Warren went home to the Lord on August 23, 2007 at Emerald Heights retirement home in Redmond. He was 94 years old. Dr. Warren (Bob) was born on November 6, 1912 in Lockport, New York. He graduated from Greenville College in Illinois where he met the love of his life, Helen Butts. They married September 11, 1936. Dr. Warren was preceded in death by Helen, his loving wife of 70 years, his brothers Paul and Frank, and sisters Flora, Miriam, Alice, and twin Ruth. Both brothers were Presbyterian ministers. Frank was president of Whitworth College in Spokane for 23 years. Bob's sisters, as well as his wife, were teachers. Robert Henry Warren followed in the footsteps of his father, Robert Hopkins Warren, who was a pastor and later a bishop in the Free Methodist Church. Dr. Warren began his ministry in 1935. He served churches in Southern California, Phoenix, and Baltimore. In 1943 he volunteered for military duty, attended Harvard Chaplain School, and was sent to New Guinea, where he served for 28 months with the U.S. Army. He was on the island of Luzon when the war ended, and Captain Warren was honorably discharged. He received commendations for his service as chaplain in the war zone. After the war, Dr. Warren served as pastor of Hermon Free Methodist Church in Los Angeles for 12 years at which time a new church was built. In 1958 he was called to Longview Community Church where he remained until 1970. Gebert Chapel was built during his pastorate, as the church experienced tremendous growth. In 1970 he accepted a call to First Presbyterian Church in Everett. He retired in 1978 and was named Pastor Emeritus, an honor bestowed by a grateful congregation. Upon retirement, Bob and Helen moved to Laguna Hills, California, where they lived for ten years. Bob was involved in part time duties at Geneva Presbyterian Church and also served as interim pastor in Tacoma as well as Hana, Hawaii. The Warrens enjoyed several Caribbean cruises with Bob as ship chaplain and Helen as librarian and craft director. Bob loved sports, especially golf and tennis. He was an ardent USC Trojan fan while in California and upon moving to the Northwest slowly eased into Husky purple and gold. He spent many Saturday afternoons at Husky stadium rooting for the home team! Dr. Warren is survived by three daughters, Carolyn (Tom) Teevin of Steilacoom, Margaret Warren of Ojai, California and Roberta (Tom) Traeger of Kenmore. He also leaves grandchildren Nathan (Susan) Bean, Andrew Bean, Colleen Teevin, and Darcy Traeger, and great-granddaughters, Marissa Bean and Shalyn Bean. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, August 30th at 2:00 p.m. at Emerald Heights. The family will gather at Everett First Presbyterian Church on September 2nd at 11:30 a.m. for interment of ashes in the church columbarium. Friends are cordially invited to join the family for these services. The family wishes to extend its thanks and gratitude to the staff at Emerald Heights for the love, support, and care given to their parents during their years in residence. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Alzheimers Association.
