Samuel Bryant Obituary

Samuel J. BRYANT, Jr. Born in St. Louis, MO. on December 14, 1926, died March 11, 2003. Preceded in death by his first wife, Lois; grandson, Samuel J. Bryant IV; and daughter-in-law, Tina. He is survived by his loving wife, Katie; children, Samuel J. Bryant III, Kimberly A. (Roy) March, Daniel J. (Toni) Bryant, and Thurman (Cathy) Bryant; his special sister, Cora Ida Burdett, of St. Louis; grandchildren, Sara, Melissa, Zachary, Thurman, Max, Steven, Forrest, Brett, Preston, and two nieces. Sam's sales career started in St. Louis with the International Shoe Co. He was transferred to Seattle and worked for 12 years dealing with all the major retailers in the area. He moved on to 3M Advertising where he worked for 13 years before he "lost his mind" and opened Emmett Watson's Oyster Bar in the Pike Place Market. Now owned and operated by his son, Thurman, it's currently in its 25th year. "We love you, Pop, and we miss you. But as you say, 'No blubbering!'" Sam felt very lucky to have an extended family through Katie's daughters, Anna (Alain) Nicolai, Michelle (Gary) Macy and Suzanne (Scott) Marcy; Katie's sisters, Lynn Cross and Eleanor Moffett; and Katie's brother, Dr. Ray (Pearl) Lobb, who gave endless love and support during his illness. From Katie: "My husband, Sam, was the eternal optimist. For him, the cup was always half full. He was idealistic, considerate, and generous. He believed the best of everyone; he embraced life. Thank you, dear Sam, for 12 wonderful years. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 21, 2003, 12:00 p.m.; Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home Chapel, 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle. Remembrances may be sent to Hospice of Jefferson County, 834 Sheridan Ave., Port Townsend, 98368. Please sign the online guestbook at www.evergreen-washelli.com

Dear Katie;

It was with sadness that we learned from a neighbor of Sam's recent passing. Though we didn't get to know the two of you very well, we enjoy today so many of the memories you left in the house on Riviera that you and Sam graciously sold to us -including the Riviera Brewing Company sign in the basement which we've never painted over, the trolley door, and the old fireplace in the back yard. People still comment on them today and so many of your old friends still ask about the two of you on their walks by the house. You were a fixture in the neighborhood and you left us with a house we grow fonder of with each passing year. We will remember Sam fondly. Our thoughts are with you both.

Sincerely,

Dave and Charlotte Stuyvenberg

Dear Sam,Kim,Danny,Billy and Cathy,

I'm so very sorry to hear about your Dad. You know that he and Bob are up there telling lies with Loie and making too much noise laughing. Bob surrounded himself with friends who knew the value of laughter, and of course, Sam was high on the list. I will never forget that he and Billy came to Bob's funeral. I am out of town and only wish that I could be at his memorial for you. We love you all, and hope that you will smile when you remember him, and laugh when you speak of him.

Love, Athene

I am so sorry to here about your dad. I remember him as always happy and always in the kitchen. Your house was always busy but your dad never seemed too busy for you. My best to you and your families.
