Stephen P. WALKER III Stephen P. Walker III passed away on December 28, 2011 from metastatic melanoma while on vacation in Arizona. Steve was born on February 13, 1954 in Houston, Texas. Steve earned a BA in Political Science and a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Washington. He worked as an independent artist for several years and became well known for his metal sculptures, culminating in a commission for the Boehm Chapel in Issaquah. In 1984, Steve founded the Heartland Group Inc. and was the Managing Director. He had an extraordinary understanding of and vision for land uses. He was actively involved with the Cornish College of the Arts as a member of the Board of Trustees and past Chairman, and assisted in the relocation of Cornish to South Lake Union. Steve was a renaissance man, engaged with the leading ideas in business and the arts. Whether at work, remodeling his house or playing golf, Steve enjoyed a full life. He was an inspiration to many and we will miss Steve's energy, eternal optimism, his laugh, the twinkle in his eye, and his big hug. Deborah,
I'm so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. When counting my blessings, having know and worked for Steve is certainly high on the list! His integrity, intelligence, and compassion touched all our lives. I'm sure the compassion we saw was only a mere hint of the compassion he shared with you over the years. May your memories of Steve warm your heart and help you through this difficult time.

Deborah,
I don't think I know you, but I worked for Steve at the Myers Group. He was one of the best bosses I ever worked for and one of the smartest men I've ever known. He was also a very kind man and extremely talented. But you know that already. I'm so sorry for your loss. Eleanor Walker

Deborah,
You and Steve welcomed me to the neighborhood, and were always so warm and open. Steve loved doing house things, and we often met on Wednesday putting the cans out. I'll always remember him in the summer months walking around with Indigo on his shoulder, happy with life. I appreciated his wit, intelligence, and range of interests -- his passing is a loss for all. My thoughts are with you ----

Oh, yes, Steve, if you had not hired me, I never would have met Elizabeth Rivers, and resultingly, she never would have talked me into going on a date with Paul Brain, who I have now been married to for almost 20 years. Funny how things work.. Thank you. V.

Steve was an inspiration to me. We worked together on projects over 20 years and he always managed to make me think and teach me something while we laughed together. I last talked to Steve in early December as we wrapped up a project together. I can not believe he is gone so soon. I will miss you Steve. My thoughts and prayers to your family.

I can't express the shock and sorrow I feel at Steve's passing. Steve was a shining light. He brought tremendous energy and competence to the things he did, always positive, supportive, caring, and persistent. His vision and creativity have helped change the face of the city for the better. Cornish College in particular has benefited from Steve's dedication and leadership. I feel fortunate to have known such a good person. I will miss him very much.
