Eric Weller Obituary

Eric Francis Weller

Captain Eric Francis Weller, born on March 17, 1959 in New Haven, CT and passed away on August 15, 2015 in Edmonds, WA with his family by his side. Eric was a talented artist who attended Rhode Island School of Design and graduated from the University of Connecticut in Architecture. He was in ROTC and following college he entered the Air Force and was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana as a Missile Officer. Eric had a passion and enthusiasm for living life to its fullest. Life to him was an incredible journey to explore new things and places. He had a deep respect for nature and loved being in the outdoors. He loved to spend time and work on his cattle ranch in Montana. He had a great sense of humor and treasured the love he shared with his family, friends and his animals. He was a respected and dedicated professional working in the roofing and the construction industry for over 20 years where his efforts made a lasting impact.

Always the "Warhorse" he showed tremendous strength, determination and courage during the last year of his life. We are eternally grateful that he is now at peace. We especially thank his care team at University of Washington Medical Center, SCCA and Providence Hospice who showed great compassion and gave us strength to carry on.

He is survived by his wife Paula, his mother Jessie Weller, his father Carl Weller Jr., his brother Karl Weller his sister Karla Flaherty and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations in Eric's name to Wounded Warrior Project or a charity of your choice. A celebration of his life will be held on August 27, 2015 in Seattle.

I taught Eric at Hotchkiss School, particularly to help him reach the level of reading and writing skill required of him. I enjoyed working him -- he was such a vibrant fellow and talented artist. He gave me one of his paintings -- I can no longer remember whether this was when I left the school or when he did. I would like to give the painting to his family if they would like it. It is an abstract still life, and it is unsigned, but it IS Eric's work. You can reach me at PO Box 424, Lakeville, CT 06039. I am sorry for your loss. Joanne Carlisle

Eric was a roommate, Proctor-mate and deep friend at Hotchkiss from 1975-1978. He was a man of few words and great action. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

Stunned. Remember all of the Wellers with great fondness. Eric was a bit larger than life, in his subtle way. Sending love and light to Karla and Jess.- Linda Beach

Karla, so sorry for the loss of your awesome brother. I remember him as an excellent swimmer from our youth as do many of my New Haven area friends in the same age group (Eric was one month older than me). Plus your Dad and mine were very close business friends for many years. And you went to BC like me!! Wish I knew Eric better but we both moved around a bit. Happy you are settled in RI, very nice part of NE, esp. in the Summer. Don't think I can make it on Sunday but my sympathies to you and all of your very large family. Stay strong, Jamie Dahill, NYC
