Daniel Dundas Obituary

Daniel John Dundas

Daniel John Dundas, 67, of San Francisco CA, left us June 5, 2014. Born in San Bruno, CA on Oct 24,1946 to Patricia (Keane) and Arthur Dundas, "Danny" was raised and schooled alongside his brother Michael and cousins in San Francisco, a city near and dear to his heart. He was drafted into the Army and served 2 years as a MP at the Presidio. Never one to follow protocol, in the 70-80s he followed his passion for rock-n-roll music and worked for The Grateful Dead. Eventually, he settled into a computer job with the U.S. Dept of Defense, from which he retired in 1998. He was an avid 49ers and Giants fan. Above all, he loved being "Grandpa Dan" and made many special memories his grandkids will hold in their hearts forever.
Dan's generous free-spirit lives on through his daughter Jennifer Murrell, grandson Josh Bombard, and granddaughter Devan Hagen.

Danny was my neighbor on 40th Ave. and a good friend. Used to visit him often. His dog Maxie and that poor old TransAm he kept running for so long. Im so sorry I wasnt closer. I left the country in 2010 and tried to contact him several times. Didnt realize he was gone. My apologies to the family. Liked Danny a lot. God keep him.

Danny - you and I were friends for a long time. I think about you often, at least once a week. You were a kind and gentle man. You cared about people. You left us way too soon.

I remember getting so upset with some of the things you did but always wanting to spend time with you. I would go stretches where I would stay at your place at least once a week. I could have stayed in a hotel, my work would have covered the expense but I just enjoyed being around you and suffering through my frustrations. I miss you Dan. Love always, Gary

Dear Dan..Always so full of fun and life, I fell under your spell as did everyone who crossed your path. Looking back we were so young and so ill-prepared for marriage but, because we loved each other, we blessed this world and each other with our most precious and much loved daughter Jennifer. For that reason as well as many others, I will always love you and be grateful that we shared a life. I know, with certainty, that the priceless memories we shared because we were able to stay close over the years can never be taken away--even by death. Until we meet again, dear Dan, do Rest in Peace. I know you will keep everyone laughing, your kindness touched us all.

I heard the sad news today and wished that we could have gotten together again on my last few visits to San Francisco, but it wasn't meant to be. I have fond memories of the great times and love that we shared back in the early 1980's. I'll never forget that Grateful Dead New Years Eve concert at the Oakland Coliseum, what a blast. I wish we had kept better in touch with each other. Give your Mom a big hug and kiss from me, you're both very special and I know we'll see each other again. Love you guys.

So lucky to have had you in my life over the last 30 years, I treasure all the memories. You were one of my favorite people on the planet...so funny, easy to talk to, non judgemental, and best story teller ever! There will never be another Dan Dundas. Whenever I think of you it will bring a smile to my face, warmth to my heart & tears to my eyes. Thank you for being you & thank you especially for creating Jenn. You two are more than friends, you are my family & I love you both dearly. Will miss you forever...xo

We will miss you Dan and your contagious energy. You were always so fun and so funny and I would always look forward to every visit. I will never forget our early morning beach trip to collect sand dollars, and the way it poured the day we went out exploring Hate/Ashbury, and the way you always included me even though you didn't have to. Oh, and remember the time you were picked to play with Shamu in the Sea World show! So cool! You were always cool and you are missed.

Danny and I were great friends for many years and we had wonderful times together. He was the funniest man I ever knew and he had a good heart. My deepest sympathy to the family at this most difficult time.
