Missing you Jimmy, this time of year is hard without you. I'm thinking of your sweet family here and in Maryland.

Jet, you and I are cosmically linked forever and I love you like no other. The star that burns twice as bright lasts half as long....
and you are so very bright. I not only love being your brother but I'm thrilled to make that claim.
What an honor when people say that
I remind them of you.
Poor people of Heaven. Can they get a word in edgewise? I'll see you again, my very best friend...

I'm certain that I have not seen Jimmy, or heard his voice, for more than 25 years. But none the less, my world is a little lonelier without him. Jimmy was a unique and wonderful person... my best to his family and friends.

Long ago I was a wet behind the ears teenager trying to break into college radio at WMUC-FM. Jim was a terrific older colleague -funny, thoughtful, challenging, offbeat, but never condesending. It was my good fortune to have him around the station as a bit of a role model as I stumbled about trying to "find my voice" both on the radio and in life. Thanks Jim - you really were one of the Good Guys and you will be missed.

It is evident from the joyful memories shared here that Jimmy has touched many souls along his journey -- with his quick intelligence, restless creativity & elliptical sense of humor.

Back when Jimmy and I were at the University of Maryland together, songwriter Andy Fraser wrote:

... It takes every kind of people
to make what life's about,
Every kind of people
to make the world go `round ...

To me, these timeless words sound like the workings of a cosmic clock.

In the way of the Quakers, I hold in the light Jimmy's family & friends. My sympathies & empathies are with all of you, during this time of dark sadness.

Jim, you will be sorely missed. Fortunately you left us all with many happy memories of a rare soul definitely in touch with his bliss. And you left us with an excellent mantra:

Dear Barbie and Kenny-

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Jimmy's passing. Although we met only a few times, I clearly remember his wit, energy, and sense of infinite possibilities. My thoughts go out to you and the family.

Jim always seemed to know the best way of doing things. From cutting a bagel with a butter knife for a crunchier surface to telling time with blinking lights. Jim's way wasn't necessarily easier, just more fun. I miss you and will think of you whenever I check the time.

Jim, you will be missed! Speaking with you on the phone was always a bright spot in my day. It is not often I meet someone I can discuss developing international business opportunities with and on the same phone call chat about my Waldorf high school memories. You were a wonderful person and will be in my thoughts often. My deepest and sincere condolences to the entire Thompson family.

A day at Waldorf without Jimmy's smile and infectious spirit is a bleak day indeed. Jimmy, we shall forever see your face in your beautiful son Kenny and remember you with love. Barbie, our hearts are broken for you. You went too soon- peace be with you on your journey.

Dear Barbie and Kenny,
I only met Jimmy once at a Waldorf event but his warm wonderful personality was evident. My thoughts are with both of you and I hope you will find peace in the wonderful memories from the all too short time you had with him.
Fondly,
Sandy

Barby & Kenney: I am heart broken to hear the passing of Jim...he always brought a smile into the office....and the endless notes he would leave on my desk about the timeclock and barcodes.....I will miss him. To this day I talk about the engineer who always wore white shirts, black pants, white socks and black shoes....

It’s hard to imagine Noe Valley without Jimmy strolling along, with his lanky amble and his trademark white shirts adorned with a blinking work of art: at the farmers’ market on Saturday; at Noe Valley Pizza, picking one up for Kenny; trick or treating and engaging with neighbors and kids and pranksters, appreciating everyone’s costumes; strolling along with his dad, with a countenance that seemed to reflect the sun; he and Barbie hanging out next door with Marc and Doris; Jim enjoying a cigar in the most contented way. He was always so animated, engaging, full of life, a bright light that held an inexplicable majesty. Good travels, Jim.

Dear Barbie & Kenny,
We were saddened to hear of Jimmy's passing. Our visits to San Francisco will lack the impromptu visits with Jimmy, often at the soccer games and occasionally at Tom & Liz's house. His bright smile, infectious laughter and genuine interest in others will be missed.

Barbie:

I was sorry to hear of Jimmie's passing. It's been years since we've seen each other, but his image is with me to this day and will be long into the future.

I work for the company that manufactures the Tix clocks that Jim designed. I am going to miss Jim coming in with his music blaring and his ever positive attitude. And his trademark "Whats the word bird" greeting to us all. I have never met anyone like Jim and am pretty sure I never will again. He will be missed.

Jimmy was the best. I’ll miss hearing his enthusiastic cheering at Kenny’s games. He made us all laugh and was always forthcoming with compliments. We’ll forever miss him.

Jimmy's appetite for life and for fun (I don't think he saw a difference) was voracious. He brought so much joy into so many people's lives. His enthusiasm was infectious, as was his happy embrace of everyone who had the singular pleasure of spending time in his company. We know his energy will continue to shine forever.

I miss Jimmy and his wonderful presence at our kids' soccer games every Saturday morning. What an amazing, creative, passionate man! Our world just became a little darker place with his passing. He'll be remembered for his unique humor and his generous spirit. May these qualities live on in all of us.

I'd like to express my sympathy to the Thompson family. I didn't know Jimmy personally but have heard many Jimmy stories from my friend, Cindy who is Jimmy's sister. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
