Mr. Janzen was a great teacher. In a way, he still is. After I moved to El Paso in 1974, I took under him two semesters of life drawing for my last year before graduating. I love the passion he had as an artist and an instructor. He had the right words to guide and inspire and show what he meant, but never taking away your own style. He allowed and promote you to continue to expand.
I wish I had taken more classes with him but I was moving on with life.
He was one of the best teachers I had.
Blessing to his family.

Mr. Janzen was a fabulous teacher! I took about 8 semesters with him at UTEP, during the creation of his Mayan series. Wish I could see those now! When I had design questions or problems he always offered multiple possible solutions. Very inspiring! I used his teaching example when I became a college art instructor. What is also important is that he taught during the the pre-Internet time when information was scarce and secrets, especially art secrets, we’re held close and not shared by those who knew the answers.
I learned of his passing about 10 years ago from another former student, Dale Andrews, who is now my brother-in-law.
If Loren wasn’t the inventor of the print form known as Collograph then he certainly helped it to prosper. Especially with his Mayan series. I came across his obituary while looking online to see if I could find any of his Mayan prints. So far I haven’t.
Many blessings to his family.
