Geoff portrayed the cosmos, with pen and ink, acrylic paint and pixels. His paintings revealed the sublime wonder of the universe, the luminous beauty of distant galaxies, and the conceptual leap to infinity. Rooted in scientific fact and theory, the unseen mysteries emerge tangible and harmonious. His work transcended the genres of astronomical and space art, with his unique vision and technical ability. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

His work is quite amazing, and although I never met him, I saw much of his art and was able to get some of it to his family.

I have come across more than a hundred slides/photographs taken by Mr. Chandler and would like to send them to whomever would like them. I'm not sure how they ended up in my hands, but perhaps from the time that I lived in Mill Valley, CA. My Cell/Text is 239-707-1000

I met Geoffrey when he had just made the painting for Supernova 1987A, and it was on the cover of TIME magazine. He came to me to purchase art supplies, and with his long hair, I thought he was a hippie, until I saw that painting. It was then I realized he was a master and got to know him as the warm and kind person he was, besides being amazingly talented. I always thought very highly of him and am saddened to hear of his passing.

I just found out about Geoff's passing today (11/5/18). A friend of mine and I spent many intense and happy hours with Geoff in the studio recording music from around 1969 until Geoff left for Art School in Oakland. Other than perusing his website a couple of times over the last few years I never had a chance to reconnect with him.
I have digital copies of the master tapes of some of the (very psychedelic) music/jams we made together that I would be happy to pass on to his heirs.
He also designed the cover for the EP shown here that we pressed back then.
Geoff was a wonderful kid and the seeds of his freedom, artistry and wonderful madness were pretty apparent to us even back then.
Farewell, Geoff.

What a loss to the art world and I just discovered his passing today June of 2018!
Having been moved by his one and only music release Starscapes I have hope his musical gift to the world of curios listeners would one day be re-released for future listeners to partake the aural journey into the deeper hinterlands of imagination.

On a whim I just did a google search of my ex-husband. Tory and Helene I'm sorry for your loss and I am also sorry for the loss to the art world. Obviously I had left Geoffrey and my early adult life behind, since I am seeing this almost a year later. Though my life with Geoffrey was complicated it was also formative and filled with a deep love and passion that he brought out in me. Some of my favorite times with him were when he and I played piano and flute together privately. Not many know what a brilliant musician he was as well. He taught me how to improvise and music is now my profession, assisting the music director at Joaquin Moraga Middle School. I am remembering the dear times with him and wanted you to know he is not forgotten by me. Please feel free to contact me if you are inclined (though I understand completely if it's too awkward). With condolences,
Valerie DeShong

Proud to have known Geoffrey and glad to have been his friend for years. His paintings as his character were poetic, meticulous and vast in subject and content. He was a fascinating man.
