Bernard Meyerson passed away peacefully in San Francisco in hospice care. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, where he met the love of his life, Marion. They were married in 1955. They moved to Illinois where he was the Dean of Foreign Students at the University of Illinois. After moving to California, his passion for recycling and the environment led the way for his next career as an Environmental Consultant. A San Francisco resident since 1979, Bernard was active in his Neighborhood Association and served on the Port Authority Board. He and Marion had 56 wonderful years together until her death in 2011. Bernard will be remembered for his intellect and his wit. He is survived by his two daughters, Beth Sterkel and Susan Santos, his two sons-in-law, Mark Sterkel and Ed Santos, his four cherished grandchildren, Jacob, Aliya, Matt and Jordan. Bernard was also a beloved father figure to cousins Wendy and Paul. He will be greatly missed as he was greatly loved. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I remember the first night I went to a NCRA meeting in 1990 as an SF State undergrad after an Economics class had gotten cancelled and after they let me in I remember seeing Bernie from the other side of the room and how he came off as a very balanced person and one who held himself well in any discussion. Very good man to know.
