I met Russ Flynn, a very handsome guy in 1969, when I was making calls for Wonder Chair, his business at that time. But I knew almost nothing about him, so I'm happy to learn more and see that years later he was living an exemplary life. I did get to know his wife Sally, who impressed me as beautiful, kind, and wise, and I wasn't surprised that such a lovely couple had beautiful daughters. I've read Laura Flynn's poignant memoir, "Swallow the Ocean," so I know the family has had its share of sadness, but I'm glad that Russ Flynn had a loving marriage of 29 years. Even though I didn't know the family extremely well, I'll always remember them.

I spent a few afternoons with Dennis and Russ on the Le Pelican in SF Bay over the years. Russ was a great man and better human being. He will be enjoying a better place, my condolences to the rest of the Flynn family.

I knew Russ when he was married to my college roommate Sally Barton. I was in touch with their daughter Laura some years ago but have not been able to contact her for a long time. I would like to be in touch with her if possible. My contact information is: Mary Coyne Karau, Madison, WI 608-276-9747 and 608-334-4545

Dear Sara, Laura and Amy,
I am so sorry to read of the passing of your father. When you were all very little, I use to babysit you on Saturday nights (I was in junior high school) and my mom use to come and clean your house. Your mom, Sally, was always very nice to my family. Your dad would give me a ride home after my babysitting duties were over and he was such a nice person. Sara, you were so helpful with helping me take care of Laura and Amy (she was a toddler then). I gave up babysitting you girls because I went to high school. I am sure you girls have become accomplished women.
May the loving memories that you shared with your dad get you through this difficult time.

Sara,
Once you start to read these your eyes will water and your heart will smile, as you read the messages from people sending warm wishes. The kindness and compassion you share with the world will warm the hearts of your family and friends - today, tomorrow and many years on. I always enjoyed my time with your family.

What a privilege it was knowing Russ. How lucky we are to have met him all those years ago in a Paris cafe. His courage, curiosity, integrity and humanity will continue to inspire us. We treasure the times we spent over the years with Russ and Lee - the holidays, the laughs, the bottles we drank, the conversations about politics and the world and our lives. Sending so much love from Sydney,
Sarah, Fred & Oliver

It saddens me that Russ Flynn has passed away. My remembrance of Russ was one of high integrity, warm, congenial businessman and humanitarian eager to lend a helping hand. The SF Bay will truly miss Russ.
