Arthur Hayssen Perry

Kohler - The terrestrial existence of Arthur Hayssen Perry ended on Monday, July 16, 2018 after many months battling cancer.

Born in Wilmington, NC on October 2, 1932, he was the son of Albert Fraser and Marie Hayssen Perry.

Arthur began his education at Forest Hills School in Wilmington, NC. He attended St. Pauls School in Concord, NH and was graduated in 1951, after which he enrolled in Yale University, majoring in architecture and was a member of Zeta Psi fraternity. After graduating from Yale in 1955, Art was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Reserve. After 6 months active duty at Fort Sill, OK, he served ten years reserve duty in Sheboygan, WI attaining the rank of Captain.

He joined his family company, the Hayssen Mfg. Co. in Sheboygan in 1956 and remained with them until the sale of the company in 1966. He then continued in machine sales, organizing his own company, until retirement in 2004.

Having been an avid sailor the majority of his life, he had enjoyed membership at the Sheboygan Yacht Club and the Elkhart Lake Sailing Club. He was a member of the Kohler Civic Club, where he was instrumental in the design and erection of the Veteran's Memorial in Kohler Woodland Cemetery. He had been a member of the Elkhart Lake Men's Club, Pine Hills Country Club, Lions Club of Sanibel Island, Kohler Sports Core and is a Freemason. He enjoyed the challenges of participation in the Sheboygan Symphony Chorus, the Lakeshore Chorale, and singing with the Sheboygan Symphony Carolers. He served on the Board of the Sheboygan Symphony for many years and was involved in the founding and further development of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Art also served on the Endowment Trust Committee at the Sheboygan Historical Society, and the Board of Directors at the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center. He designed the Hayssen Mfg. Co. display at the Sheboygan County Museum, was a pilot and member of EAA Sheboygan Chapter 766, and honorary alumnus of Lakeland University 1990.

Having had a family ties with All Saints Chapel at Elkhart Lake, he attended there during the summer months, where he led the hymn singing since the 1990's. Winter found him attending First United Lutheran Church in Sheboygan.

In addition to sailing, Art enjoyed trap and target shooting, pheasant hunting, golf, hockey, rowing and visiting with family and friends. He was a loving person who enjoyed giving and receiving warm, friendly hugs.

On February 11, 1961, he married Charlene Wachter. She preceded him in death in August, 1973. On July 25, 1975, he was united in marriage with Ruth Marie Fladland in Sheboygan.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth: sons: Arthur, Jr., (Stephanie) of Seneca, SC; William (Susan) of Broken Arrow, OK; Stephen of Tequesta, FL; Michael of Milwaukee, WI; Scott R. (Clare) Fladland of Elgin, IL; Gregory J. (Patricia) Fladland of Oak Park, IL; and one daughter, Rae Ann (Patrick Calvird) Perry of Victoria, Australia. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Will Perry, Melissa (Luther) Langston, Grace and Perry Calvird, Haley (Hermann Gonzalez) Perry, Marin and Eva Perry and Sophia Tang; sister Jane Perry Liles of Concord, NC, brother Albert Fraser (Rogene) Perry, Jr. of Wrightsville Beach, NC, brothers-in-law Richard (Carol) Wachter of Sheboygan Falls, WI, Fredrick (Audrey) Wachter of Neenah, WI and John Blushkofski of Wickenburg, AZ, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Arthur's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at First United Lutheran Church, 2401 Kohler Memorial Drive in Sheboygan. Rev. Todd Smith will officiate. The family will receive visitors at the church on Thursday from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Wildwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice endowment, Sheboygan Symphony endowment or the Sheboygan County Historical Society endowment.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Hospital, 2nd floor for their compassionate and loving care.

I am very sorry for your loss. I did not know Art for a long time but admired him. He was such a interesting person to talk to. The encouragement he gave me will stay in my heart forever. I will think of him every time I make jam.

Our sincere condolences to the family of Art Perry. We knew him through his musical connections with the Sheboygan Symphony and Chorus and the Lakeshore Chorale. He was a kind and encouraging person. He will be missed greatly by family and friends.
