Jolley Wasson Obituary

Jolley Gary Wasson

SHREVEPORT, LA- Jolley Gary Wasson, 80, passed away February 11, 2014. He went peacefully, surrounded by family, and those who loved him.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 14, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. The service will be officiated by Jolley's son-in-law Pastor Art Evans. Interment will follow in Forest Park West in Shreveport, Louisiana. After interment, family, friends and loved ones may gather at Shreveport Community Church for fellowship and remembrance.

Jolley was born on November 16, 1933 in Summerfield, LA. Never was a child given a more fitting name, for Jolley was surely jolly for all of his days. He enjoyed a childhood filled with adventures that could rival a character from a Mark Twain tale. After graduating Summerfield High School, he was a proud member of the Sea Bees in the Navy, which led to many other escapades, including a reported accidental swim with a school of barracuda, and a narrow escape from a Kodiak bear. If you never heard these stories, you should wish you did. Jolley went on to marry the lovely Annetta Tankersley and start his family. In his professional life, he was a plumber, but his true gift was story telling. He could entertain a room for days with his repertoire of hilarious and exciting experiences. Jolley was also an amazing baseball and softball pitcher, the most skilled fisherman in all of Louisiana, and a master gardener. Most importantly however, Jolley was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Jolley is preceded in death by his parents Annie Lee and Robert Ford Wasson, as well as his brother Charles "Buster" Wasson.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years Annetta Tankersley Wasson; son and daughter-in-law Robin and Terri Wasson; daughters Suzanne Gongre, Sharon Wasson, Wendy and husband Art Evans, and Jen Wasson; grandchildren, Rachel Noble, Aaron Wasson, Michael Selby, Nathan Wasson, Shelby and husband Chase Mills, Katie Joy Gongre, Hannah Evans, Abigail Evans, and Ben Evans; great-grandchildren, Noah Wasson and Piper Noble. Jolley is also survived by sister Mary Anne and husband Charlie Masters, and brother John Wiley and wife Diana Wasson.

Pallbearers will be John Wiley Wasson, Aaron Wasson, Michael Selby, Chase Mills, Glen Dixon, Harold Moss, and Hubert Jolley.

Jolley's impression on this world was strong, and his memory will not fade. We are certain he is entertaining a room of loved ones, and new found friends in Heaven right now.

My thoughts and prayers flow to the family. Suzanne, our high school years afforded me the opportunity and pleasure to meet your father (and family) and what a pleasure it was. Blessings and comfort to you all now and always.

Never was there a man so loving or so loved. He never met anyone that he didn't like or was willing to pull a prank on. He will be missed by many.

My condolences to the family. I worked with Jolley many years ago at FitzGerald's. He was always a joy to be around. He had a very uplifting spirit. He kept us laughing that's for sure. May God give you peace and comfort in the days to come.
