Funeral services were held for Mrs. Helen “Yoo-Hoo” Goocher Campbell, age 88, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home at 405 East 5th Street, Homer, LA, on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., and Rev. Johnnie Adkins and Rev. John Campbell, officiated. Interment was at Summerfield Cemetery near Summerfield, LA. Visitation was at the funeral home from noon-2 p.m., prior to the service.
Yoo-Hoo was born December 14, 1936, in Summerfield, LA, to S.G. and Alibelle Raley Goocher. She entered into rest on August 16, 2025, in Summerfield surrounded by her loving family. Yoo-Hoo attended and graduated from Summerfield High School and went to Northwestern University in Natchitoches, LA, where she received her B.S Degree as a Registered Nurse. Her career as a nurse took her in 1959 to Shreveport with Willis Knighton in OB, ER, Med Surg; in 1964 Bernice, Tri-Ward Clinic and Hospital on evenings OB, Medical; in 1968 Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home as DON, and became Administrator in 1982. In 1986 she became a Consultant for Nursing Homes Management and part owner of Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home. In 1990 she became owner and operator of HeDeLe Home Health, where she served in Union, Claiborne, Lincoln Parishes and Union County. She also served on the Board of AHEC (Area Health Education Center) Program; the Board of WC Reeves Memorial Scholarship Fund; the Board of Bernice Historical Society. In 2024, she was inducted into the Corney Creek Hall of Fame and a Lifelong member of Summerfield Methodist Church.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and dear friends, serving others, and traveling the world. She loved gathering family and friends for Christmas, Easter, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and birthdays. Many friends were made and maintained through her work in Bernice and her travels to Malawi, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, The Holy Land, England, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and all of the US.
She is preceded in death by her parents, S.G. and Alibelle Raley Goocher; loving husband of 61 years, Sherwood Dean Campbell; and sister, Virginia Bailey Furlow.
She is survived by her children, Denise Baugh, John and Lea Anne Campbell, and Karla and Stevie Aycock; five grandchildren, Ellery and Justin Gorman, Joe Dan and Lesley Baugh, Dana Campbell, Raley and Kyle Parden, and Mallary and Luke Bowser; eight great-grandchildren, Slaid and Marissa Gorman, Chassis Layne Gorman, Maddie Marie Gorman, Ava Jo Baugh, Benjamin Reid Baugh, Brantley Dean Kent, Rowan James Aycock, and Evie Marie Bowser; a great-great-grandchild, Hudson Pierce Gorman; sister, Kate and Eddy Sherman; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The family wishes to offer our most sincere “Thank You” to Premier Hospice, especially to Kim and Muffin; Dr. Brian Harris and Dr. Sam Abshire for their longtime friendships and care; Kathleen Parden for her loving care, support and friendship, and Lottie Singleton.
Pallbearers were Jamie Sherman, Shed Sherman, Jerry Goodwin, Chase Gill, Zack Wilson, Dalton Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Joe Dan Baugh, and Brantley Kent.
Honorary pallbearers were William “Bo” Hayes, Darrell Pepper, and Ken Copeland.
In lieu of flowers honoring Yoo-Hoo, her family suggests memorials be made to WC Reeves Memorial Scholarship, PO Box 524, Bernice, LA 71222; Summerfield Cemetery, 170 Duke Dr., Haynesville, LA 71038; or Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.
