Norris Franklin Moss

 

Norris Franklin Moss was born December 15, 1941 in Summerfield, LA to Ernest & Mamie Moss.  He went to his heavenly home on June 27, 2023 in his beloved cabin on Moss Lake in Colquitt, LA.

Services were held on Thursday June 29, 2023 at Holly Ridge Assembly of God Church in Colquitt, LA at 2 PM with Brother Steve Moss officiated.  The family began accepting friends and loved ones at 1 pm.

Growing up the youngest of five children, his days were spent working on the farm with his parents and his older brothers and being taken care of by his special Angel of a sister Teene doting over him like her very own china doll. Norris attended Summerfield High School and under the guidance of Mr. Bill Bailey, became quite the basketball star.  Anyone who visited with him the last several years was sure to have been entertained by stories of his basketball games complete with scores and teams beaten.  Even though his mind lately would not let him remember everyday things, he never forgot any of those details. He was drafted into the Army in 1964 alongside Ralph Olsen from Brooklyn, New York and Clarence Bagwell from Arab, AL friends that he made that lasted a lifetime keeping in touch with them by phone where they would spend hours talking. From cutting hair alongside his Uncle Arthur Hendrick in Atlanta, GA to making his living as an Air Conditioning Refrigeration Serviceman, there was not much Dad couldn't do and he loved telling stories about all the people he met along the way. Norris married Dianne Gibson in 1966 and that union produced five children.  His family was something he was very proud of.  Dad thought every family vacation was to be educational and family trips to New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles and up the coast of California to see family were the highlight of our childhood. Later in life Norris would find himself living a good portion of time in a cabin in Sky Valley, CA his beloved Aunt Norine gave him.  Just like everywhere else he ever went, never meeting a stranger and making lifelong friends there.

Norris was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Harmel Moss and Howard Moss, his sister Teene Moss and both of his sons Glen and John Moss.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother and sister in law Harold & Janet Moss of Shreveport, LA, his sister in law Barbara Moss of Summerfield, LA, his daughters Melissa Smith (Keith) of Homer, LA, Melanie Perry (Robert) of Homer, LA and Megan Moss of Colquitt, LA, his daughters in law Melanie Moss of Colquitt, LA and Angel Richard of Houma, LA.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren Evan Byrd (Whitney), Jeremy Smith (Brittany), Dylan Perry, Brandon Smith (April), Madison Moss, Jake Smith (Aubrey), Mikayla Moss, Brock Moss, Maci Moss and Adilynn Moss and 8 great grandchildren, Lillie and Pixley Smith, Mason and Marshall Perry, Lennon and Colson Smith and Avery and Grayson Byrd, along with several nieces and nephews and many extended family and friends that span across the globe  
 
Honoring their grandfather as pallbearers were his 6 grandsons.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Holly Ridge Assembly of God Church and Cemetery.
