Sam Tuminello Obituary

Sam Tuminello

Sam Tuminello, 86, has been called home to be with The Lord. Dad was a Shreveport native; he was born November 3, 1927 until his calling May 9, 2014. Preceded in death by his father John Tuminello and mother Mary Tompanara Tuminello, sisters; Jada LeBeau, Sara Sparks, Rose Mcallister, and Margret Kincaid and brothers Joseph and Frank Tuminello. The family resided on West Maple Ave. He attended and graduated from Fair Park High School.

Dad was drafted into the US Army in 1950-1953 during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Hannau, Germany. There he met and married Doris Wedhorn. They were for married 21 years and had three children. Dad worked in Shreveport at Chain Battery and Bill Hanna Ford for several years. In the late sixties dad enrolled in art school and began what would become the true passion of his life. He developed skills in the various facets of arts; pen and ink, clay sculpting, and oils, but his true love was watercolors. In watercolors, he mastered the ebb and flows of paper, water, and paint and became an artist extraordinaire. He retired from Bill Hanna Ford and lived a carefree life, painting and selling his artwork across these United States. Dad made numerous friends and loves through his travels in life, but none was greater his love or art. He is now a part the marvelous pastel canvass of Heaven!

He will be greatly missed by the loved ones he left behind. He is survived by his three children; John Tuminello and wife Irene Tuminello, Rita Ryan and Dennis Tumminello, and Mark Tuminello and Sandra Landlin. The grandchildren; Jason Tanner Ryan, Rachel Ashley Ryan, Alex Tuminello, Jennifer Grant, Christen Korsmo, Brianna Tuminello, and Stephen Tuminello.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Forest Park Funeral Home. Memorial Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 10:00am-12:00pm.

I loved your dad from the time I was 17 yrs old in 1981 until the day he died. He was THE great love of my life! He helped grow me into a woman. He taught me much. And he loved me till his dying day. I did not get to attend his funeral as my mom was dying at the same time but I was there in heart and soul!

5/13/14 - So sorry we didn't find out that Sam passed until today. Connie said she thought he had but couldn't find anything. I emailed and called the phone numbers I had for Johnny but nothing worked. No reply to email from Rita. A friend of mine emailed me and told me that she saw the obituary. Hope you are all okay. Let me know how to contact you so we can keep in touch.

Deepest sympathy to the family of one who "walked the walk and talked the talk". His memory to the art world is engraved in the many paintings throughout the country.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sam Tuminello our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Sam. And to Sam it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Army. Sam, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Sam's family and loved ones.

I was 10-11 years old over 50 years ago. I remember very well how kind and thoughtful Sam Tuminello was to my mother and me when he worked at Chain Battery. His was a kindness that 'stayed with you' when you experienced it. I know he will be missed by his family and friends. (Linda Adair Gregg)
