Jerome Vincent Huntzinger Sr., 82
Longtime firefighter and Staten Islander, 'he loved his family'
Jerome Vincent Huntzinger, Sr., 82 of Manchester Township, NJ, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Staten Island University Hospital.
Born Wednesday, March 9, 1938 in Staten Island, New York, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary Huntzinger. He was the husband of the late Barbara Huntzinger.
Jerome lived the majority of his life on Staten Island until moving to New Jersey in 2007. He was a graduate of Tottenville High School and earned his associates degree at the Staten Island Community College under the G.I. Bill from proudly serving his country in the United States Army stationed in Tennessee during his time of active service.
He went on to begin his career of 40 years as a firefighter for the New York City Fire Department. During the first 20 years, he was assigned to Ladder 6 - Engine 9 in Lower Manhattan and retired in 2003 out of Ladder 78- Engine 155 located in West Brighton, Staten Island. Jerome served as Staten Island Trustee for the Uniformed Firefighters Association for 9 years.
Jerome was an avid golfer in his spare time. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He looked forward to family gatherings and spending the holidays together with them all.
Surviving are his children Donna Syron (John), Jerome Vincent Huntzinger Jr.(Lisa) and John Huntzinger (Wendy), and Ellen Huntzinger (Mathieu Furlotte), his sisters Mary MacDonald and Patty Dezio and 8 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at St Clare Church located at 110 Nelson Ave Staten Island, New York 10308.Arrangements include private cremation.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.

Knew (Scoop) for quite a while. He helped my wife and firefighter brother-in-law, Gary Gibbs through a hard time when Gary had open heart surgery. He was always good for a laugh and yet he was a professional...will always remember our times at the “Hot Corner.”

Three years ago March 9, we had lunch with Jerry and his son John, to celebrate his 80th Birthday at Tarpon Turtle. Today we went there to toast Jerry as we could not attend his wake. RIP our good friend, you will be greatly missed!
