PROVIDENCE — Arthur E. Parks II, 78, of Marion died at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Betsy R. Parks. They lived in Marion for 40 years.

Born in Fall River, he was the son of Edward and Gertrude Parks. He had three siblings, Edward Parks of Middleboro, John Parks of Snohomish, Washington and the late Gertrude Parks Bullivant. His family moved to New Bedford in 1934 and 10 years later moved to Marion. He graduated from Tabor Academy in 1947 and later earned his bachelor's degree in management and finance from Bryant College.

Mr. Parks worked at Black Brook Farm in Middleboro before owning and operating the Scuttlebutt Restaurant in Cuttyhunk from 1957-63. In 1963 he started Sleepy Hollow Builders, a construction company, which he ran until 1980.

He was a charter member of the Marion Lion's Club and the Marion Social Club. He also was a Shriner and a member of the Kiwanis Club. In 1950, he joined the Masons and was a 32nd Degree Commandry York Rite and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. Mr. Parks attended the Marion United Methodist Church and was a member of the Congregational Church of Fall River.

Survivors include his three daughters, Jill Pitman of Plympton, Kristin Whitney of Westminster, and Lynne Kuhl of Marion; a son, Arthur Parks III of Marion; three granddaughters, Emily Pitman, Natalie Pitman and Catherine Parks; and five grandsons, Jack Whitney, Jeff Whitney, Andrew Kuhl, Samuel Parks and Nicholas Parks.

Visiting hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be Fri., Aug. 31st at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham from 6 — 8 PM. A private graveside service will take place on Saturday.
