Paul Adams Obituary

Brockton Atty. Paul Adams, 78 years, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died Friday, June 27, 2008. Born in Brockton, son of the late W. Everett and Alice C. (Reardon) Adams, he was the beloved husband for 48 years of Josephine A. (Gill) Adams, formerly of South Boston. Mr. Adams was a 1948 graduate of Coyle High School, and was awarded an LLB from Boston College Law School, Class of 1960. He opened his law practice May 1, 1961, first as a sole practitioner, then in partnerships. He also served as a special assistant attorney general under Robert H. Quinn. In 1984, he became the principal in a firm, where he was later joined by his sons Mark and Paul, practicing law, and helping others, which he did quietly from his deep sense of justice and his faith. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Sept. 12, 1952, followed by active combat service in the Korean War, where he fought on Christmas Hill and led the first patrol of the DMZ after the armistice. For many years, he was active in the Brockton community, serving on the recreation commission, park commission, as counsel to the Brockton Housing Authority and, during the administration of Mayor Carl D. Pitaro, as city solicitor. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Thorny Lea Golf Club, but his true joy in life was his family. Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Paul J. of Boston, Noreen Jonson and her husband Paul of Dedham, Mark of Brockton and William and his wife Donna of Lakeville; as well as his nine grandchildren, Richard and Alice Jonson, Matthew, Brenna and Audra Adams and Caroline, Denis, Margaret and Ellen Adams; his sisters, Kay Payton of Bridgewater (formerly of Brockton) and Mary Clancy and her husband Jim of West Barnstable and the late Regina Cunningham; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Wednesday at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Brockton, at 10 a.m. Burial will be private in Mount Benedict Cemetery, Boston. Visiting hours Tuesday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Paul to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main St., Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760. Noreen, Paul, Mark, William and all: Most heartfelt condolences from all of us...from my parents and the rest of my family to yours. His kindness, discipline, fine judgment and humor will be sorely missed in the bar and throughout the community...those qualities are in short supply and perhaps the best tribute is to recall them in our day to day deeds.
