Arthur P. Tower Jr.

Arthur Putnam Tower Jr., of Fairhaven, formerly of Hingham, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016, at the age of 57, after a brief battle with cancer. Arthur, known as Putt, grew up in Hingham and graduated from Hingham High in 1976 and from the University of Maine in 1981. He started his working career in the cable industry with Whaling City Cable in New Bedford and worked for Comcast Cable Co. for 30 years. Putt spent a lifetime of summers with family, relatives and boyhood friends in Antassawamock on Mattapoisett Neck. Arthur enjoyed an active life outdoors. He learned at an early age to navigate a power boat on the waters of Buzzards Bay. He never lost his love for boating and spent many years in his adult life owning boats and using them to enjoy fishing, water sports and time with family and friends. Arthur also had a passion for sports. He participated for many years in adult league softball and was a natural athlete. He was a big fan of the Boston Bruins and New England Patriots where he held season tickets for many years, attending the first Superbowl appearance for the Patriots in New Orleans in 1986. His passion as a fan was unmatched, attending every game, regardless of weather or the teams record with his brother Steven and friends from the Fairhaven and Mattapoitsett area. Arthur was the son of Betty (Johnston) Tower and the late Arthur P. Tower. He leaves his son, Thomas A. Tower of Fairhaven; his brother, Steven J. Tower; and nephew, Steven Tower Jr. of Rockland; cousins, Nancy Moore and Meredith Heath of Marion, Jeffrey T. Hutton of Dedham, Arthur T. Moore of Seekonk and Alexander Moore of Tampa, Fla. He is also survived by his former wife, Susan Fortier of Fairhaven. A memorial service will be held at Second Parish Church, 685 Main Street (Route 228), Hingham, Thursday, September 1, 2016, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Second Parish Accessible Entrance Building Fund.
