Gordon MOEN Obituary

MOEN, Gordon Ellsworth (Age 94) Gordon Ellsworth Moen passed away on Tuesday, March 9th, 2021 at 94 years of age. Gordon was born on January 7th, 1927, in Bremerton, Washington, to Albert and Dorothy Moen. He was an only child. Gordon went through all grades of school in Bremerton. On his 18th birthday in 1945, Gordon enlisted in the Navy. He served as a fireman aboard several ships, most notably the USS New Jersey. After his discharge from the Navy, Gordon went to work selling shoes at the J.C. Penney department store in Bremerton. It was there that he met the daughter of a co-worker, Gladys Davis. Gordon worked at the Bremerton Sun newspaper, selling display advertising. He and Gladys were married on July 16th, 1949. In 1951, Gordon took a job selling display advertising at the Tri-City Herald in Kennewick, WA. The consummate salesman, Gordon genuinely loved selling and talking to people, trying to leave everyone feeling better after their conversation. Gordon and Gladys first lived in Richland, where daughter Cindy was born in 1953. They then moved to Pasco where daughter Christy was born in 1957 and son Steven followed in 1961. Gordon was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Master in Pasco, WA. Gordon and Gladys loved to travel, cruising around Hawaii and through the Panama Canal, and exploring Europe, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, among other destinations. They also enjoyed vacationing at the Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond, Oregon, where many happy family memories were created. Gordon retired from the Tri-City Herald in 1991. In retirement, Gordon enjoyed driving cars for the Tri-City Auto Auction and as a "Demo Dude" at Costco. In 2002, Gordon and Gladys moved to Spokane Valley, WA, for better access to healthcare. They loved living in "The Greens", and socializing with friend from Gladys's PEO group and their church community. After Gladys passed away, Gordon made the move into the Orchard Crest Independent Living facility in Spokane Valley in 2017, where he once again made numerous friends. He lived there for about three-and-a half years. After a year in and out of quarantine, Gordon contracted the COVID virus. Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys, in 2015. He is survived by his children, Cindy Bishop (Kim) of Spokane Valley, WA, Christy Thorp (Dave) of Westerville, OH, and Steven Moen (Cathy) of Kennewick, WA. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Brandon Bishop (Lisa), Emily and Katie of Puyallup, WA, Erik Bishop (Emily) of Spokane Valley, WA, Rachel Thorp of Columbus, OH, Hannah Thorp of Cincinnati, OH, Nichole Satterwhite, Taylor and Greyson of Springfield, OR, and Kyle Moen of Vancouver, WA. No services are being planned at this time. Memorials may be sent to Spokane H.O.P.E., a program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children, at 1821 E. Sprague Avenue, Spokane, WA 99202.
