William WEISGERBER Obituary

WEISGERBER, William Curtis "Bill" July 24, 1946 - November 8, 2015 At the age of 69, Bill lost his race against esophageal cancer, passing away peacefully at Hospice House of Spokane on November 8, 2015. He was born to Virginia Marie (Krier) and Stephen Philip Weisgerber on July 24, 1946 at the Doctor's Hospital in Seattle, WA. He had such a fun-filled and joyful childhood living in Spokane until 8th grade when the family moved to Yakima. After graduating in 1964 from West Valley High School in Yakima, he continued his education. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Recreation from the University of Montana in 1969. In January of 1970, Bill was drafted into the U. S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was given an honorable discharge in October 1971. He worked as Unit Director his first year and Executive Director the latter three years for the Lewis-Clark Valley Boys Clubs of America in Lewiston, ID from 1972-1976. This was a very rewarding job for Bill. His heart was so patient and compassionate when working with children! Bill returned to school and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a Minor in Business from Eastern Washington University in 1979. He took a position with Social Security Administration's Spokane office in July of 1981. On September 25, 1982 Bill married LuAnn Heer in Ephrata, WA. Together they raised four wonderful sons in Cheney, WA. He retired July 31, 2015 due to his illness with 34 years of service. Some of his hobbies were snow-skiing, water-skiing, camping, boating, traveling, running, coaching youth baseball, following many sports teams and players and family genealogy. Bill ran marathons, an ultra marathon, triathlons and almost every Bloomsday race. The last four years he ran Bloomsday he competed to win. He would train for 6 months prior, running 60 miles a week. Bill placed at the top of his age group as well as being the fastest 68 year old in 2015. He is survived by his wife and best friend LuAnn of Cheney, WA; four sons, Bill (Deborah); and grandchildren Billy, Monroe and Miles Weisgerber of Spokane, WA, Nicholas Weisgerber of Cheney, WA, Johnathan Weisgerber of New Haven, CT and Jacob Weisgerber of Spokane, WA; sister Stephanie (Joel) DeTray of Clarkston, WA; twin brothers Jack (Karen) Weisgerber of Spokane, WA and Philip (Julie) Weisgerber of Olympia, WA; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. Bill never lost the sweet little boy that was inside of him. He had a witty sense of humor and was very adventurous and spiritual. He felt compelled and enjoyed reaching out to all kinds of people as he lived his life to its fullest. He touched many people's lives and will be dearly missed. A Vigil will be held Friday, November 27, 2015 at 7:00pm. A Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 11:00am. Both will be at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes 1115 W Riverside Ave. Spokane, WA. I met Bill in Winter of 1977, did lot of fun activities like dancing, water ski. Bill helped me with US culture. Bill was was a very decent person. On my visit to Cheney, he showed me his picture with President Ford at the white house, a honor for good stud work at boys and girls club of Lewiston. He mentioned that was the best job of his career.

Bill and his immediate family have been dear friends of our Grimes family originally of Clarkston WA for many years. He was a warm and caring friend to us and his smile is what I remember most also. My sister Roxi, a close friend of Stephanie's, considered him to be like a brother to her. Our family is praying for your strength and comfort from our Lord Jesus.

LuAnn and Family,

Please accept our condolences, we are very sorry for you loss. Bill, was a very kind person.

We knew him through St. Rose of Lima church in Cheney. We also had a common interest, as we too are graduates of the University of Montana and are Grizzlies.

He left us way too soon.

May God bless and keep you,

Don and Karen Malisani

After graduating with Bill at the U. of Montana in 1969 Bill & I traveled to Acapulco, Mexico on a 6 week trek. Bill was a great companion and fisherman on the trip. I filmed him landing a 125 lb striped marlin in Mazatlan and enjoying a jungle boat ride with giant Iguana lizards in the trees. While shore fishing one evening we were protected by an Indian guide from banditos. We narrowly escaped driving off a cliff after avoiding a bus slding on the hot asphalt in our lane. Bill was so upset that he asked me to drive the remainder of that day. We thankfully arrived safely back to the good USA where we eplored the Carlsbad Caverns. Bill called me this summer and told my wife that was the best trip he ever took!
