George McGrain Obituary
Age 78, of Elmira Heights, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at home. He was predeceased by his father, Ralph McGrain in 1980, mother, Elsie McGrain in 2007 and brother, Arthur McGrain in 2010. He is survived by his brothers, Ralph McGrain of Elmira and Leon (Wanda) McGrain of Horseheads; sister-in-law, Priscilla McGrain of Millport; daughters, Donna Simpson of Levittown, PA, Diane (Gary) Duell of Millersville, PA and Dale (Jack) Seyferhelt of Levittown, PA; son, David (Nancy) McGrain of Levittown, PA; special friend and girlfriend, Claire Bixby; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; special niece and nephew, Tracie Mayotte and Marc McGrain. George retired from the US Army in 1975 with the rank of First Sergeant (E-8). He was a member of the American Legion Post #154 and VFW Post #6083, both in Elmira Heights and the White Eagles Lodge #1094 in Elmira. George graduated from Thomas A. Edison in 1955. He was an avid golfer and bowler, winning numerous awards locally and nationally. He was elected to the Elmira Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1999. There will be no calling hours. George will be buried in Woodlawn National Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the James D. Barrett Funeral Home.

We knew George for many years. Always had fun and good times either at the Legion, at bowling tournament, or at Lake Bonin. He will be greatly missed.

I enjoyed bowling against George for many years and had a lot of fun with him, always quick with a smile or a sharp-tongued response (in jest). Never knew he was a fellow TAE alumni until I read it in the paper this morning. He will be missed. Best wishes to his family and all the close friends he left behind.
