I watch episodes of This Old House every day, and have been impressed with their efforts to promote community involvement through a variety of educational and volunteer activities. Seeing Austin as an aspiring young apprentice was uplifting. He seemed to be smart, energetic, and eager to learn in order to perfect his knowledge of the building trades. He was mature beyond his 18 years, and his smile was infectious. Even though it has been 5 years since his unexpected passing, his presence is still felt. My condolences to his family, especially his mom, who still must endure the pain of his loss. Continue to rest in peace Austin secure in the knowledge that you made a lasting impression in every episode in which you appeared. God bless his friends and loved ones!

I have been watching This Old House for the past few days. I loved the young apprentices working and was very happy to see young people interested in acquiring a career in this field! I thought Austin was so nice and seemed to be eager to learn, as the other 2 young people were. I was so sad to learn that Austin passed away several years ago! Tears immediately streamed down my face! He was such a young person with hopes to make the best out of his life for himself and his mom!! I extend my deepest condolences to his family!

Though it was a short life, Austin touched millions nationwide as a bright sweet young man. We are a real estate development company and can tell he was such a keen, dedicated, talented worker, he was an incredible asset to any group. His legacy on TOH will inspire countless other young people in this field, which is so very needed. He will be a bright light forever!

Like a few here, I saw Austin light up the screen on This Old House. He was so full of life and potential! When I heard of his passing at the time, I was shocked and saddened. Now, so many months later, the reruns of that season are on again, and I think I shed a tear or more every time he's on screen. My heart goes out to his family, and I hope his siblings take up the torch he held - the torch to be something great. I listed myself as as student in relation to him on this page, because in his brief life, he has shown us all something about learning, striving, and living in the moment. RIP, Austin Wilson.

My husband and I were watching TOH this morning and I'd mentioned to him about the young black man who was chosen out of hundreds of applicants to be an apprentice for the show, but had passed away. Just so happen, the show came on where Austin made his first appearance. Sending my heartfelt condolences to the family, because I know it's still hard! ❤

My heart is hurting for the entire family at home and around this world he touched. Like me who (at 68 ) learned I have leukemia and will beat it with Gods help. God bless TOH for giving him this opportunity. RESPECTFULLY

I had not watched TOH for a while, but I was recently led to turn to the show a second time in just 2 months. Each time Austin's story was being told. For some, it is hard to understand why someone so young and who seemed to be a very good person would die so young.
When we understand that we serve a GOD of a 2nd chance and that this life is our 2nd chance, we realize that Austin, through his living, fulfilled his second chance and has now returned to GOD to receive the promise of eternal life.
May his family find comfort in GOD's WORD and peace that only GOD can give us when we trust in HIM. GOD used your son, brother as a precious jewel who touched so many lives which is evident in the names and places we see here. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Such a mix of emotions upon hearing of Austin's passing. Along with the sadness of his passing is a joy knowing that this young man left quite a legacy. He "built" a network of strangers into adoring fans by his genuinely pleasant personality and infectious smile; his very presence made one "feel good". As an elder, I was delighted by the respectful way he interacted with his co-workers of all ages. I was looking forward to seeing all the good he would continue doing on earth in the future; but, clearly, he has accomplished what he was sent to do and has no doubt heard the words from his creator "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Austin did in 18 years what some of us will never accomplish in quadruple those years. My condolences to his family. Thank you and thank God for sharing this shining light with us.

So sad to hear of Austins passing. Being in commercial construction for forty years I know how difficult it is to find young people that want to work the trade.
