I just saw Alvin last Friday and we had a wonderful visit as always. He and Toni were wonderful church friends to me when I joined St. Louis, and they continued to inspire me with their enduring love and compassion for others. I am so sad to lose them, but I am so happy they are together again in heaven. Peace be with you during this time of loss. Love in Christ to the DeVane family.

Lt DeVane was an active band parent when my husband, Charles, directed the Lanier HS band; when Charles passed away, Lt DeVane led the funeral procession to Austin Memorial Cemetery, and had arranged for two rows of police officers to line up and salute the hearse at the entrance. That was so meaningful and touching that I still tear up when I remember. What a dear, thoughtful, kind man!

Lt DeVane was a long time personal friend as well as parent of his children in my tenure as The University of Texas Longhorn Band Director! He was kind and gentle and yet did his police job by the book!!! We loved him and admired him and I know he will ve welcomed to the next world ! We all have lost a fine fine man!!!

Alvin will be missed by so many in ham radio and the music world that love Barbershop singing. The Police Department had a great model to go by. May God Bless The family at this time of their loss.

Lisa and the rest of the DeVane family,
Words seem so empty at times like this, yet it is our hope that ours will give you some comfort, spark some joy and bring warmth to your world as you walk through the next days, weeks and months. God has given us memories for times such as this so draw on those times of laughter, excitement and joy that you shared together - it is those memories that will grow brighter and give you comfort as time passes.
We are deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Rhonda and I extend through the miles a heartfelt hug and a smile. It is our prayer that there will be many friends and family that come alongside you at this time.
May Isaiah 40:28-31 give you hope and strength to meet the challenge ahead.
"Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
We know Alvin and Toni are enjoying their new angel wings!

I take Mr. DeVane's street every day of my working life, and am glad to now know something of his story. He is someone all Austinites may be proud of. My best wishes to his many friends and family.

Alvin, Teri, John and Lisa, you have lost a great man. I will miss my visits with him. He was always very gracious and nice to me as was your mother. We had great conversations about old time policing and of course The Longhorn Band! He loved the Longhorn Band. I will miss his standard answer to "how you doing?" "still kicking, just not very high". He will be greatly missed by so many people whose lives he has touched. Of there is anything you need don't hesitate to call. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and your family.
