Robert Mullens Obituary

Brig. Gen. Robert Macon Mullens Brig. Gen. Robert Macon Mullens, 81, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at his home in Georgetown. He was born June 19, 1928 in Thornton, TX. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rich Macon Mullens. He graduated from Texas A&M University, class of 1948 and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. reporting to Fort Bliss, TX for active duty in March 1949. He retired in 1976 after 27 years. He had combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. He served in CENTAG and NATO command in Germany, Dept of Army and Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon. He was Co. of the Air Defense, Western Region with units in Washington State, Oregon, and California. His final assignment was commander of the USA Safeguard ABM Command, North Dakota. His decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Parachute Badge. He is survived by his wife, Lydia Landon Mullens; son, Robert Macon Mullens Jr. and wife Deanne of Leander, TX; son, David Lee Mullens and wife Carolyn of Ridgefield, WA; daughter, Melissa Edmunds and Husband Norman K. Edmunds of Frisco, TX.; seven grandchildren; sister, Katie Lou Stevens of Groesbeck, TX. He was a former member of Alamo Heights Methodist Church, Sherwood (Oregon) United Methodist, and The Worship Place at Sun City, Georgetown, TX. Interment with military honors will be at Fort Sam Houston September 11th at 2:00 p.m.
