Mrs. Janet Lee Simpson Mrs. Janet Lee Simpson, born on December 10, 1943 in Austin, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on October 17, 2010 at her home in Kyle, Texas. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Hartz and Fannie Lee Adams Helf, of Austin. She is survived by Bill M. Simpson, her husband of 47 years, their daughter, Jenna Lee Simpson of Austin, and his mother Eunice Simpson. Janet is also survived by her sisters, Mrs. Nancy Winfield of Austin Texas, and Mrs. Judy Barnes of Georgetown Texas. She had a large extended family... and her beloved cat, Alley! A graduate of Travis High School, Janet was a natural athlete, and enjoyed coaching and playing soft-ball. She loved tennis, golf, fishing and riding horseback. In the early 1960s Janet worked at the Texas State Comptroller's office and at the University of Texas PCL Library. She then began a career lasting over 25 years as a substitute rural route carrier for the United States Postal Service. In addition, she assisted her husband Bill with the operation of his business, Travis Hair Styling in the Omni Hotel in downtown Austin. While a post office employee she made dog treat bags at Christmas time for all the dogs on her route, and even prepared treats for a donkey or two! Janet loved the outdoors and all animals. In her later years, she became an avid, and quite good, Texas Hold-Em poker player. Visitation is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4600 Manchaca Road, Austin, Texas 78745. A memorial service at 2:00 p.m. will follow, with Dr. David Ritsema serving as officiant. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Austin Humane Society, or the charity of your choice.
