I just learned of Dr. Askew's passing as I left Austin in 2011.
Dr. Askew was my mother's (Marjorie Newton) surgeon through many medical situations and part of his fibrocystic breast disease study. As far as Mom was concerned, he was a beloved member of the family because he treated his patients like family. I remember him fondly and will miss him.

We missed this notice as we were attending our daughter as she began some Chemo. Bob was my resident as a junior med student and a close colleague in Austin. He epitomized the ultimate physician as well as family man, friend, and all around great person. He was a giving hard worker, but always had a smile to share. He taught me alot over the years and will be sorely missed. Our sympathies to Jenell and all the family---Dave and Jane Buckman

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Askew when I was a nurse at Seton Medical Center Austin. He was a great surgeon and teacher. His compassionate spirit lives on through his children who are also excellent healthcare professionals. My prayers go out to all of you. Your dad will be truly missed.
