James Collins, a devoted father, cherished husband, and proud veteran, passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 69. He was born on January 23, 1957.
James was the son of Elizabeth Mary Sheaffer Collins, originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Floyd Edward Collins, originally from
Austin, Texas. Their guidance and values shaped the strength, curiosity, and compassion he carried throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, older sister Kendall B. Collins and his beloved wife of 18 years, Sylvia Ann Collins. James's love for Sylvia was deep and unwavering, and those who knew him take comfort in imagining them reunited once more.
He is survived by his daughter, Miranda Lopez; his sister Callie B. Collins Shelton; and his brothers John M. Collins, Christopher E. Collins, and Floyd E. Collins. His family remembers him as loyal, steady, and a man whose presence made others feel safe and cared for.
James honorably served his country for 17 years in the United States Army and the National Guard, dedicating much of his life to protecting others and exemplifying integrity, discipline, and courage. These values continued into his civilian life as he pursued a successful career as a security officer. He was widely respected for his professionalism and bravery-being awarded the Gold Shield in 2013 for heroically preventing an armed suspect from fleeing the scene and assisted in his apprehension, embodying his instinct to act when others needed protection.
In his retirement years, James never stopped learning. A lifelong student at heart, he took classes in automotive studies and psychology, driven simply by his passion for expanding his knowledge and keeping his mind sharp. His curiosity was endless, whether he was exploring how engines worked or trying to better understand the human mind.
James was equally devoted to his life at home. He loved cooking meals, gathering family around the table, and creating a warm, welcoming space. Known affectionately as the family's "walking encyclopedia," he was always ready with a fact, story, or insight that sparked conversation or made someone smile.
His passing leaves a profound void, but his loved ones hold tightly to the memories, lessons, and love he shared. Those closest to him take comfort in knowing he is reunited with Sylvia, the love of his life.
He will be deeply and forever missed.
