Mary Eleanor Evans, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3 at her residence in Elgin. She lived a full life as a devoted wife to her husband, Horace, a loving mother to her four children, and as a doting Mema to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary was born on January 18, 1926 in Fort Worth, Texas to Starr and Rosa Laughlin. She married her sweetheart, Lucien Horace Evans on May 15, 1946, and together they raised four children in faith, love, and a good dose of humor. Mary leaves behind a vast legacy of faith, patience, generosity and love for others. She was extremely proud of and adored her children and grandchildren and always delighted in hearing the details of their lives. She was a steady source of inspiration and warmth to her loved ones and had a true gift of lifting spirits in the direst of moments with encouraging words or a simple comforting squeeze of a hand. Mary truly was a gift to this world, and the warmth and love she radiated in her life lives on the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have her in their lives. In her death, Mary rejoins her husband, Horace, her eldest daughter, Judy Kay, and granddaughter Dea. Her memory survives in three children; Dick Evans and wife Barbie of Austin, Gary Evans and wife Sharon of Pflugerville, and Dana Block and husband Al of Taylor; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and her dear friends at Regency in Elgin. Services for Mary will be held at Beck Funeral Home on Monday, March 7 at 2;00 pm followed by interment at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7.
